Goofs

When the car explodes, the number plate of the car is blown off. When the smoke disappears and the explosion is over, the number plate magically returns to the now ruined car.

When Lien and Nick are outside walking to the hacker's apartment in LA, she can be seen wearing maroon colored tank top. In the next scene inside the apartment, the color of her tank top suddenly changes to light blue instead.

When Hathaway is using keylogger software to capture Donahue's password to the NSA's Black Widow program, they show a view from under Donahue's keyboard, with him supposedly typing his old and new passwords. It clearly shows the space key being pressed a couple of times, even though the next screenshot shows no spaces in the passwords.

Hathaway resets Jessup's phone to refresh his location every 24 hours in Los Angeles, in the suspect's apartment. Hathaway finally runs, and Jessup says, "I haven't been tracking him since LA!" Between these two events, they slept overnight in LA, took a 14 hour flight to China, staked out Kassar in the park, slept in Hong Kong, had a gun battle at the port, retrieved the drive from the reactor, did the Black Widow hack, slept again, and Chen had his meeting with his bosses. There is no way Hathaway's location would still show Los Angeles.

When at the tin mine in Indonesia (1:34:30) the pickup they are driving is clearly black in the aerial shot. 2 minutes later at the port (1:35:42) the pickup is white.

When looking through the hex dump, Nick Hathaway comes across a "//TODO ... " and infers the malware developer was in a hurry. Compiled binaries don't contain programmer comments. They are removed very early in the compilation process.

It was mentioned that Malaysia is one of the four largest tin exporters. This is no longer the case as Malaysia has ceased mining tin in a large scale since the '70s.

Hathaway is shown using a smartphone app named "Wipry" to search for the hidden bluetooth transmitter signal in Hong Kong using an Android phone. In reality "Wipry" is only available for Apple products and not for Android.

Characters are shown walking around the grounds of the nuclear power power plant in street clothes within days of its containment building suffering a massive rupture to its shell. This area would be highly radioactive and uninhabitable for months if not years.

In Indonesia, the term "Ketibaan" is not used for Arrival, but "Kedatangan". "Ketibaan" is Malaysian.

(at around 2 mins) There is an aerial shot of the nuclear reactor. The overlay switches from Japanese to English, and a very clear "Stock Footage" watermark pops up in the shot.

In the "one country, two systems" framework, there is no way that a Chinese police officer could just come into Hong Kong, conduct an investigation, arrest people, or do anything of that nature.

When the team boards the two helicopters (at around 58 mins), the helicopters make a very distinct, high pitched sound. This is a very unique sound that is made by helicopters with a a Fenestron (Fan-In-Fin) tail rotor. The Augusta Westland AW189s used in this movie have conventional tail rotors, and have a very different sound in reality. In fact, the sound used for the movie most closely matches that of a Airbus Helicopters (Formerly Aerospatiale/Eurocopter) Dauphin family - perhaps the most recognizable of Fenestron equipped helicopters.

At around 9 minutes, the Mandarin dialogue does not match up with the the visual. Apparent at 9:54.

In the final scene where Nick Hathaway & Chen Lien are leaving Indonesia, it appears that the airport is in fact in Malaysia by the signs outside "Kota Baharu" (Malay spelling and inside "Ketibaan/Arrivals" (should say Kedatangan).

At 5:04, a Chinese Police van is seen, whereas the scene was set in Chai Wan, Hong Kong. The police vans in Hong Kong differ from those from China.

At 5:40, the vehicle shown is a left-hand drive car. All cars in Hong Kong are right-hand drive.

When Nick and Lien arrived in Perak, Malaysia, as per the satellite's scan and GPS coordinates, the vehicle (a Toyota Hilux) that they were using had Indonesian registration plates.

The address 9135 West 8 street in LA, CA would not be in zip code 90005.

On his first appearance as a technical advisor, after Hathaway is presented as a dangerous hacker, he's invited into a data center (where he gets full access to a keyboard) just to check the content of a pen drive, which could be checked anywhere else.

About halfway through, they suit-up to enter the reactor. They put on their HazMat gear but they don't put on the proper boots or tape up their pant legs (to their boots). They also don't tape up the zippers of the suits. These things are always done in HazMat situations.

(at around 1h 22 mins) John Ortiz's character's name is Henry Pollack but Carol calls him Stanley while speaking to him on the telephone.

While hacking the Blackhat servers, Hathaway forces a boot in single mode and makes a backup of the whole userspaces to a NTFS partitioned drive. The system is running an old kernel from 2006 (release date of 2.6.18 kernel) and luckily it already supports NTFS partitions. It would be wise to use a partition that has full support on unix filesystems. If the kernel was older, he would need to figure out another way to transfer the data.
