When the group arrives in Paris and passes by Jim Morrison's grave, in Pere Lachaise, the song playing is a French version of "People Are Strange" from The Doors' 1967 album "Strange Days". Morrison was the lead singer of The Doors. The inscription on the tombstone reads, "KATA TON DAIMONA EAYTOY", which translates to "true to his own spirit".
The Black Death (Le Peste Noire) or the Bubonic Plague, was the "Zombie Apocalypse" of the Middle Ages. The first wave occurred during 1346 to 1353, followed by several others, and ended by 1671. It originated in Central Asia, and was transmitted by fleas which fed on the yersinia pestis bacteria which lived naturally on the rodent populations. The plague spread along the trade routes (Silk Road), which cut into Alexandria in Egypt, Damascus in Syria, Constantinople (Istanbul) in modern-day Turkey, and down the Red Sea to Mecca and eventually into Europe by way of the Italian city-states of Genoa and Messina. The bacteria would cause the lymph nodes in a person's immune system to swell like a boil (also known as buboes from which bubonic is derived), body's first line of defense, where dead blood cells and bacteria would die and fester and lead to the death of the host. The Black Death killed 2/3 of Europe's population and the outbreak ushered in starvation, wide-scale famine, economic collapse and dislocation. On a positive note, the Plague broke the economic stranglehold of Feudalism, and gave people more freedom of movement and the ability to sell their labor to the highest bidder, and followed by the period known as the Renaissance, which was a rebirth of the classical learning of Greek and Roman wisdom.
One person says, "Where is Brian? He is in the kitchen". These sentences are derived from an elementary school exercise where English is taught as a foreign language.
The Catacombs of Paris was initiated before the French Revolution (May 5, 1789 - November 9, 1799), but the impetus started with In Louis XV in 1763, when he issued an edict banning all burials from occurring inside the capital, due to overflow of bodies from the Black Death in the city's cemeteries, that lead to a public health crisis. The graves were disinterred and placed in the limestone tunnel under the city, and it was later popularized by Napoleon.
