A different take!

Excellent craft work by Shankar Ramakrishnan with stellar performances by each and every one of the Ranis. The new comer who donned the titular role of Rani did some superb acting during the second half though her's were sceptical in the first half. Guru Somasundaram as usual made sure he gave a tough competition to those acting against him. Though the movie is named Rani and has a string of lady actors, without a second thought it was Indrans who ruled the screen and he turns out to be the Raja in Rani!

Time and again Urvashi reminds us of her mettle and that she can handle any other genre as well as she handles comedy. Though with limited screen time Anumol, Maala Parvathy and Honey Rose did justice to their roles. And it was a very fresh take to see Honey Rose's character not being objectified. Bhavana carried the role with much poise and grace and I so wished her character had more screentime!

Another highlight of the movie is the Vazhenam song which portrayed the 'Mudiyattam' dance form in its true colors with elaborate 'Kalam ezhuthe' and percussions accompanied. As a true blue Thiruvananthapuram lover it was a cherry on the cake to see that major parts of the film were shot in and around the erstwhile Travancore perimeters. It surely looks like a comeback for the city which once brought down the Malayalam film industry to its lap from Madras, when traced back!
