- After losing in a tournament of poker, the gambler Peter Coe goes home with a woman that says goodbye to him. He says hello to the doorman and gets on the elevator alone. When the elevator reaches the second floor, Peter is murdered with throat slit and blood everywhere. Russell, Morgan and Greg cannot understand the mysterious death since how could a person kill the man in ten seconds. Among his belongings is a bracelet from the 1997 Palermo Poker Championship. Meanwhile, Nick and Sara go to a hotel room at the Palermo, where the gambler Trent Aldridge was found dead on his bed with the ankles and wrists tied up to the bedposts. Soon the CSIs believe that it was a S&M that gone awry. Hodges investigate the possible murder weapon and concludes that it should be a playing card. He sends Henry to the crime scene and he finds an Ace of Spades full of blood. Morgan and Brass go to a theater where the magician James "Dr. Jimmy" Nefarro is practicing his number of slicing a throat with a card with his assistant Katy Hill, but he had an alibi for the time of death of Peter. - Peter Coe loses out in a poker tournament and is escorted back to his hotel by a beautiful woman, gets in his elevator but on reaching his floor is found dying - the team investigate.
Another man is found in a hotel room having choked to death, again his death is linked to cards (he'd choked on 7 chicken hearts), this encourages the CSI team to investigate past crimes and uncover another card-linked death some months before.
