Scott brings Gavin a potato as a solution for his laptop power problem. The problem is that he found a potato in 10,000 BC LA. At that time the primitive ancestor to the potato was a wild and uncultivated plant found in the Andes, some 4,000 miles to the Southeast. And those potatoes were much smaller, hardly something people recognize now. It would take another 12,000 for the Inca, then Europeans, to cultivate the much larger potato that is grown worldwide now, from Ireland to Idaho. So, 10,000 BC LA, there are no potatoes to be found, even the smaller primitive ones.
