Zany, off the wall fun.
Sleepin_Dragon2 July 2023
Sister Boniface is injured whilst riding past the set of "Oh-Do Behave!" picture. Felix is there as Police advisor, and is soon called upon when There Director Sexton St Juste is killed.

Imagine a Carry on film about a murder mystery, with all of the characters and producer Gerald Thomas all mixed up, we have characterisations of Sid, Bernard, Hattie, Joan and Kenneth.

This was outrageous, and how wonderful to see the whole cast having a bit of fun. This really shouldn't have worked, but it does.

The Sid James and Kenneth Williams rivalry was brought back to life once again, I thought both actors did a fine job with the characters.

With Sister Boniface sidelined, it really did allow the spotlight to fall onto Sister Peter and Sister Reginald.

I thought James Hurn was absolutely brilliant, he had Sid's laugh to perfection.

Great fun.

8/10.

A tight Squeeze

Felix finds himself in a decidedly uncomfortable position as the Police Advisor on set of the latest 'Oh! Do Behave!' picture. Abrasive director Sexton St Juste rubs everyone up the wrong way with his venomous attitude and acerbic wit. Before long, Felix discovers Sexton strangled with a curious weapon, and suddenly all of the team are called to the studio.

Being a Carry on fan I enjoyed this one a lot. The characters resembling Carry on stars were spot on, especially the victim who is mimicking Kenneth Williams. He's a horrid character so obviously he dies, but in a Carry on style. Strangled by a brassiere. Another fun aspect is that the poor sister laid up in hospital having sustained an injury and is watched by the stern Reverend Mother who doesn't want her to get involved in the case, but Sister will find a way to overcome that with the help of the other Sisters.

A Tight Squeeze

Oh what a carry on. The movies come to Great Slaughter with the smutty Oh, Do Behave series filming.

Director Sexton St Juste is not a popular fellow has he is more interested in titters and making the movie come in on budget.

With sexpot Sally Chagford being offered a West End part. Sexton is not pleased, he does not like his performers being lured away.

When Sexton ends up dead, strangled by a bra. Many of the performers are regarded as suspects. One of the actor's take directorial duties to make sure the film is finished on time.

With many of the characters resembling Carry On regulars. There is broad comedy with Sister Boniface even landing in hospital after a motorcycle mishap.

There is darkness with the murder mystery but it's done in the best possible taste.

Cheese Scone scene was funny - but show really should be renamed The Gay Men Mysteries
SunnyDaise1 July 2023
Aw ... Sister Boniface is such a mish-mash and I have a real love/hate for the show. The premise is supposed to be a strong female lead, but the main character really doesn't have enough screen time because the writers are so obsessed with cramming gay men in - unrealistic for rural 1960s. I'm also really missing Ruth Penny to represent professional women and their struggles in a man's world - her departure is not the writers' choice, but they need to get the balance right as women aren't all nuns and old biddies, even in the 60s. WPC Button is ok, especially for younger viewers, but she's too early in her career to represent many women. Despite my niggles, I'm sticking with SBM for now as there really are some funny moments - the highlight being Cheese Scones!
