Even though "Wrong Song" is number one and Edgehill is throwing Rayna and Juliette a party to celebrate, everyone is angry.
Juliette is angry for numerous reasons. First, she's mad that Rayna and Liam basically ignore her onstage and flirt with each other when they're all performing together. Then she's mad that she has to give them a ride back to Nashville on her plane. Then she's mad that Liam ate her bean dip. And then her assistant lets slip that she thought they were going back for Juliette's mom's court hearing.
She later is angry at her mother's hearing when she's asked to testify on her mother's behalf. Deacon tells her to "speak from the heart" and she can only muster a few words about her being glad her mother's getting help. Her mother's charges are not dropped and she has to go back to rehab but she's free for the night so Deacon invites her to Juliette and Rayna's party. Juliette is then mad at the party when Rayna's picture is bigger than hers on a poster and she feels like her mother is embarrassing her. Then she is mad at Deacon for bailing on babysitting his mother at the party like he promised.
Deacon is angry because Tremolo magazine and that reporter Carmen end up writing a story quoting the sleazy lead singer Cy saying they fired Deacon because he fell off the wagon. Deacon reams her out and tells the truth about Cy hitting on Scarlett and points out that he's been sober 12 years.
Deacon is then angry at Rayna when she comes to check on him and he unleashes on her again for marrying Teddy while he was in rehab and not waiting for him. She is angry at this saying she had no idea that rehab trip number 5 was going to stick and it was untenable with him. He knows she's right but is hurt and essentially tells her to buzz off.
Later, when an angry Juliette tracks him down to yell at him about her mom. In his wrecked house, a sober but dry drunk Deacon admits that he tells people he got sober for himself but really he got sober for Rayna and was always hoping he'd take her back. He now knows she won't, not after their fight earlier that day. Juliette tries to convince him to join her band and get back to doing what he loves but he demurs.
Rayna isn't angry at first. She happily flirts with Liam onstage. Joyfully needles Juliette on the plane. Is flattered when a record exec named Calista comes and flatters her and tries to woo her away from Edgehill saying it would be the perfect meeting of artist and visionary record exec. Liam also tries to help woo her to the label since he knows Calista. But then Rayna gets angry too. First when Deacon is so mean to her. And then at the party when she learns from her Edgehill label boss Marshall that the only reason Liam was pushing her to do the deal with Calista is because she offered him a side deal of his own label. Liam, who was also making douchey comments about her marriage to Teddy, basically admits this is true but says it's clear theirs is a real partnership and she can't walk away from it. She angrily does, telling him the partnership is dissolved.
Teddy is angry because he doesn't know where he and Rayna stand and is worried that she's cheating on him with Liam after seeing the freak out at the party. They have a heart to heart. She says she's not cheating but is still angry with him. He apologizes again for his lies and misdeeds. He talks about how when he found her after Deacon "wrecked" her and she said she just wanted a solid guy he tried to be that. And when things started to fall apart he did the wrong thing for the right reason: to keep being the guy she needed. He muses she did the same thing in picking him over Deacon.
Avery is angry, mostly at Marilyn, because she keeps saying she's going to introduce him to people at the party but doesn't. He then is angry when Juliette, distracted by her mom, doesn't recognize him or know his song
Gunnar is angry at his brother for pawning his guitar and being a fugitive from the law, forcing him to law to law enforcement officials. He's then angry at Scarlett when she suggests he talk about it and also suggests teaming up with Avery's old band members to form a new group.
Gunnar stops being angry when his brother surreptitiously drops off his guitar and he gets together with Scarlett and the boys to play in her garage.
Avery eventually stops being angry when he hears his song on the radio driving home but then gets angry again when he sees Gunnar, Scarlett, and the boys rehearsing in his old garage.
Juliette stops being angry when she makes conciliatory gestures toward her mother after Deacon makes her see that he and her mother are fighting the same battle. They sweetly, tearfully tell each other how proud they are of each other.
Rayna eventually stops being angry and tells Teddy as she's about to fly off with Juliette that she chose him and they're married and they will work it out. Teddy also stops being angry. Rayna is also no longer angry at Marshall and tells Bucky that if Edgehill can offer her her own vanity imprint she's all theirs.
Rayna and Teddy both get angry again when-- after Juliette tells them they have to wait for one more person on the plane to the next tour stop-- Deacon breezes in and onto the plane. He's joined Juliette's band. Ruh-roh.
