- Thor battles an enemy of his from Asgard, the militaristic Rock Troll king Ulik who is wielding a dangerous Asgardian axe with similar properties to Thor's hammer Mjoulnir, but considerably more dangerous. Ironman joins the fight despite Thor's warning about him not understanding magic. He also becomes visibly shaken after defeating Ulik when they loose the axe and states that he may be destined to die on this day.
Stark and Steve track the axe close to Latveria's embassy, much to Thor's anger. In the meantime, agents of HYDRA attempt to seize the axe but are attacked by Victor Von Doom's robotic dogs who take the axe to him. Red Skull angrily calls Doom about the a matter and insists that the Avengers are best taken down alongside his team. Doom declines frustrated and modifies the axe with his own technology to be summoned to his hand. The Avengers land on the embassy lawn and fight Doom's robot forces. Doom appears out of the ground drawing energy with the axe. The weapon enhances his strength and fighting skill allowing him to take the Avengers with ease. Doom uses the weapon to crack open the surface, and an enormous serpant breaks out of the ground and begins to attack the city.
Thor confirms that it's the Midgard Serpent, a creature meant to bring apocalypse by destroying all structures, thus growing in size till it can completely destroy the planet. The serpent makes short work of Hulk leaving Thor and Ironman to hold the serpent back. Falcon heads to retrieve Hulk and Captain America and Hawkeye attempt to apprehend a megalomaniac Doom who tries to enslave the serpent. Thor stands by a prophecy stating that he is to be sacrificed to satisfy the serpent and stop the rampage. Captain America and Ironman don't listen to this and Stark stops him from killing himself for the serpent. He tries to talk Thor into a rational choice and that he shouldn't let legends carve his destiny. They realize that Ulik managed to use one of many portals connecting the Nine Realms together(Just like in the MCU) and Ironman finds one leading to an Asgardian underworld down the street. Thor and Ironman draw the serpent into it while Doom still recklessly tries to control it, mounted on it's back. Doom and the serpent are pushed into the portal while Ironman and Thor close it.
In the aftermath, they visit a captive Ulik in Avengers Tower and Thor tells him that only he has the right to decide his path. Stark later allows Thor to take him to Asgardian custody.
