Underwhelming Ending
Makulit2 September 2023
The beginning of the story, the comedy, the friendship, and romance are all great. The actors did a great job portraying their characters. Unfortunately, I don't see that there's much chemistry between the main male and female leads.

Also, I think Rose is prettier than In Hae. I think she would have been a better main female lead. Then again, that's just me. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say.

To go through all of the things In Hae and Seon Woo Hyeol did to finally feel what it's like to love and be loved, then for the them to end up that way is so disappointing.

It has a happy ending in some ways but it's not very satisfying.

If you want a complete and happy ending with closure, then skip this drama.

From the beginning until the end of this drama, the theme is, "to have loved and lost is better than to not have loved at all."

It's just okay
mqtqfzyq19 August 2023
For some reason I don't get the sparks that the main leads should be showing, so overall it seemed flat to me. And the acting of the main lead actress somehow fell short to me.

Overall I'd give a low 6. Kudos to Taecyon to deliver a great performance in this series, will wait for your next project. And good job for Won JiAn considering it's her first main lead experience.

I read one of the reviews and couldn't agree more about the first half of the series showing potential, but the second half felt a drag and story plot just falling, I remember about skimming through so much just to get the end of it.

Sweet romance with vampire undertones
gensearcherpatti31 July 2023
I'm glad I endured the first 2 episodes, because the series becomes better and better-"endure" is not an exaggeration.

Taecyeon's acting is more muted than usual, and all the other actors played their parts so well that the story just flowed. Taecyeon's best friends are delightful in both time periods, the female lead was excellent using a more deadpan demeanor to visually account for her sad life, and the two supporting (2nd love interest leads) actors maintain their way of becoming part of the complicated love story without drawing attention to themselves.

It's a typical K-drama romance with trauma, tropes, and disappointed second leads. The modern day vampire twist is sometimes amusing, sometimes pathetic.

Looking for love or finding it when not looking are the real themes here. If looking for a sweet romance with occasional action, regular humor, and without annoying characters, this series might be for you.

Not your typical romcom
mgaymarjorie18 July 2023
You missed half of your kdrama life if you don't get to watch Heartbeat. This is not your typical romcom drama. This is farway that "globally overrated" romcom this season that's too cheesy and unbearably cliched one. Heartbeat has that interesting plot, magnificent actors especially Taecyeon. He is just so amazing on this drama. This drama proves that kiss scenes are not necessary to make our feets curl. The comedic scenes made by taecyeon is so naturally delivered that shows how good his sense of humor is in real life. You'll gonna love him here I promise you. Check this one out, you will not regret it. And Taec here is so so gorgeous.

Nice but could have been better
lisa-3982311 March 2024
This was my first K-drama. Overall, I really liked it. The actors, especially the male lead, were very likeable and.did.a.great job. The story felt unique and touching. I loved some of the side characters and the humor as well as the mix of folklore and the modern world. The villain was really scary and the characters' backstories interesting. I particularly liked the flashbacks scenes from the 1920s.

My main problem with this show was the ending, as many others have pointed out already. You watch all these people more or less trying to solve a huge problem. And in the end, nothing is solved. So I wondered what was the point of watching this. I was extremely frustrated with the ending and really can't understand why the writers decided to have it end this horrible way. It really destroyed the whole show for me and is the reason I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

My New Fav Drama
geehanthie18 July 2023
I am enjoying this absolutely fresh take on Vampires led by Ok Taecyeon. He is such a treat to watch as he plays the role of a hapless vampire out if his time and comfort zone.

I must say it keeps me entertained each episode with none of the cringy scenes I see in some other dramas. I also see many theories popping up by viewers which means it's making us think and imagine what's gonna happen next. The chemistry between the 2 leads is very natural and improves with each episode. Won Jian is new to me but I am enjoying her acting a lot too.

Recommend anyone who wants a light hearted fun ride to check this out on Amazon Prime or HiTV.

10 for Ok Taecyeon, 5 for story, 7 for moving resolution=7
melhans-6512517 March 2024
A vampire falls in love, loses his love and dedicates his eternity to searching for her reincarnation and a way to become human and experience with her the flutter of a heartbeat when in love.

As the alpha vampire, his crew is dubious but loyal. And very very funny. The method involves an excruciating century-long stay in a caustic wooden coffin that burns the eternal out of him. But he gets the coffin, climbs inside and says bye bye till the end of 100 years to the day he starts.

His mansion persists over time managed by a human butler and his descendants, the last of whom is a down-on-her-luck girl in need of a crash pad in an emergency. One day short of a century, she discovers the coffin, flips the lid and wakes Taecyeon before the utransformation is complete.

Neither fish nor fowl, he discovers his powers are not what they were, his existence is uncertain and the girl refuses to leave his pad.

Frankly, I watched the whole series to see OT, and his interactions with veteran comic actors. The premise and the actors are quite funny. And the ending, while not the usual, is very satisfying given the vampire's desire to be human. What is more humane than altruism?

The versatility of Ok TaekYeon
sduarah30 July 2023
HeartBeat is the latest drama of Ok TaekYeon.

If you want to have a great time with the right mix of laughs, emotions, drama, fantasy, action and great acting - this should be on your watchlist (if not already).

TaecYeon is as versatile as they come. Also watch Blind and Vincenzo to see his mettle.

Bringing to us a half-vampire (one of its kind) with an ease only he can muster.

He goes from being cute, scary, sad to being scared in a blink of an eye - while looking exceedingly handsome and attractive.

Specially his eyes that does most of the heavy lifting in terms of his acting which is a treat.

Heartbeat is currently Top10 in a lot of countries and airing on Amazon Prime on Mondays & Tuesdays.

Leave it to Ok TaecYeon to bring to us something refreshing, new and interesting unlike the usual KDramas.

If the drama has Ok TaecYeon, be rest assured that it will not be your usual run of the mill stuff.

It will be something that will either keep you at the edge of your seats or tug at your heartstrings or make your stomach ache with laughs.

Go ahead and give it a shot. I am sure you will ONLY BE entertained.

Watch for main lead only
pytgurl18 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Main lead was good. His fashion sense and emotions convey to me his feelings but the female lead is so boring and flat. She's either mad, annoyed, mean, passed, cry or laugh, and no in-between. There was no effort on her end to save the main lead and some scenes was questionable. The second half was rushed and a lot of lose ends. The romance had no chemistry.

Rose, the vampire friend had more emotions. Not sure why she wasn't cast as the main lead. The main lead girl made the show really boring. MR. VAMPIRE was the saving grace. The ending was also weird too. I didn't get the part where he tasted her blood at the end???

Crashed and burned in a spectacular fashion.
hanalisss15 August 2023
I love Taecyeon acting since Bring it on Ghost, so I really wanted to like this one!

The first half of the series held so much potential, drawing viewers in with its intriguing premise and captivating characters. However, the second half turned into a disaster.

The initial episodes were great and the characters were engaging, and their dynamics seemed to be setting the stage for a compelling narrative. Wasn't a huge fan of the female lead though, too much screaming for my taste.

But then, the drama took an inexplicable nosedive into chaos. The plot became convoluted, and the once-promising characters started making choices that were completely out of character and illogical. It felt as though the writers had lost their way, throwing in random twists and turns without any regard for consistency or coherence.

The pacing, which had been steady in the beginning, became jarring and uneven. Key plot points were rushed through, while other scenes dragged on endlessly, leaving viewers both confused and frustrated.

The ending also felt like a slap in the face to anyone who had invested time and emotion into the drama and was so unsatisfying that it left a bitter taste in the mouths of viewers who had been hoping for a rewarding payoff.

In the end, Heartbeat is a perfect example of how a promising start can be utterly squandered by poor execution. The dramatic decline from an intriguing beginning to a messy and disappointing mess makes it a prime example of what happens when a drama loses its direction and fails to deliver on its potential.

Good premise, poor follow-through
acmoorcroft11 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was really enjoying this for the first half and was excited to see where it went. But the 2nd half was all over the place! Also, the 'love' they share happens way too fast. They go from 'catching feelings' to love so quickly that it's unbelievable. Also, there's not enough behind that love to make it strong enough. There are a lot of other plot points that take over the 2nd half, all leading to a weak and unsatisfying ending.

Again, I enjoyed the premise, the settings, the acting was fairly good. But yeah, disappointing story direction. Would've liked to see Mr. Ko find out he was wrong and for in-hae to save the day. Too sad in the 2nd half and a lot for the comedy relief to carry. If this was a movie in test screenings that would have been re-done and re-shot. Oh well!

Watch for the joy of Taecyeon looking dapper in 1920s style, and to fulfill the Vampire rom com needs. Don't get your hopes up.

Good Enough
PennyReviews18 October 2023
Korean Drama " Heartbeat " is a fantasy romantic comedy about a vampire and a human girl who have to live together.

The first part of the drama was smooth, with plenty of comical acts, enjoyable pace, interesting story, an intriguing mystery, and engaging mythology concerning the vampires. The action scenes were nicely handled as well.

However, things started deteriorating after that first half. The romance was cheesy and boring, and, thus, not enough to save the drama, that started leaking from its many plot holes. All of which led to the shipwreck that was the ending, which more or less did not make any sense and ruined every plot development that was made in the previous episodes. And sure, I don't believe that what makes a good drama is a happy ending, but an ending that makes sense and doesn't erase everything that one has watched for the previous 15 episodes is a major factor for success.

Still, the performances were enjoyable and the actors did a good job with their characters.

So, overall, four and a half out of ten.

The romcom I needed
miaisokty11 July 2023
The first episode already made a positive impression. The pacing was good, it had genuinely funny moments that didn't feel forced, there are relatable characters and I'm into the story and want to see where it leads. It's got beautiful cinematography too and I love the actors from the leading roles to the side characters. This is one of the 2023 kdramas I'll warmly recommend especially if you're tired of clichés. This really is a breath of fresh air the kdrama world needed, I hope that it'll get more attention and love. I've dropped few ongoing kdramas but I'll definitely watch Heartbeat until the end.

Good start. Can't wait for the remaining episodes
sownd-5922230 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Loved Ok Taecyeon's acting in this role both funny at time and scary when needed. Looking forward to the casts performance in this. Good plot hopefully they do the plot justice by not having any holes in the storytelling. Since woohyeol has been asleep for 100years minus the one day. I wonder what had happened to the other vampires. Hopefully the story covers that part and hope we get to see the past of hae sun and woohyeol bit more. I'm sussing the real estate dude quite a bit wonder have he will fit into the story and how his involvement with Joo in hae will affect woohyeol. So far we know woohyeol needs Joo in hae.

Very entertaining romcom

Always very happy with the drama that Ok Taecyeon played... There is no doubt that Ok Taecyeon's role in this drama was very lively.. the expressions in every scene were amazing... At first I didn't know Won jian as the female lead, but every scene shown, their chemistry was very good... I also like the female supporting actor who also pairs well with Taecyeon. Can't wait for episode 7 to air next week.

Huge dissapointment
zzzxxxcccvvv-432021 August 2023
This was a huge disappointment. Probably some of the worst casting I've ever seen. The chemistry in this show is practically nonexistent. They made the lead actress incredible unlikable which drags the entire show down. The entire first half is just her screaming and being angry for no reason. Recasting the lead actress would have helped, but I don't even know if that could have saved the show. The production feels low-budget and amateurish. The script is just copy and pasted generic drama. There isn't a single original idea in the entire show. Definitely one of the worst kdrama of the year so far.

Great drama, tainted by poor resolution
meemsyd22 August 2023
This is a good fantasy story with likeable characters, comedy and refreshing writing.

It's somewhat slow, but I think well paced. The highlights are the male friendships, the back and forth between the love interests when they first meet, that both leads have a decent character arc, and the representation of honest communication/relationships. The writers didn't rely on miscommunications for drama, and seemed like they were inverting a couple of tropes in a cool way.

Unfortunately this series does not wrap up in a satisfying way. There are several plot points that are resolved in kind of a rushed manner, and the endings for the main characters were just weird and didn't make sense really. Not sure what happened in the writer's room towards the end. It's tough to recommend a series when it ends poorly, because you do get really invested in characters. Still a fun watch I would say but not one I'd necessarily recommend sadly.

Female lead actress ruined the show!
anonymousb-597129 August 2023
I'm enjoying the comedy in this kdrama but I don't think I'll be able to continue watching this show mainly because of the obnoxious character of the female lead actress!!!! And there's zero chemistry between the male and female lead actors!!!!!

I mean Ok Taec-Yeon's performance was good .... but I felt like his performance in this show was effected by the horrible character of the female lead actress... Her facial expressions, body language, character, voice, style and general performance are absolutely horrible! 👎 I wish if they had chosen a different female lead.. The show would've been much better!

Disappointing
billybmx15 August 2023
I really like Taecyeon as a comedic actor, this series failed to maintain the humor throughout which is so typical for K dramas. Wish screenwriters could have made this show fun till the end. Even weighty topics can be touched with humor. Hate when a comedy turns into an emotional mixed up mess. In my humble opinion, the end didn't come together very smoothly and left me feeling disappointed that I had invested so much of my time only to be let down by the screenwriters.

The acting was fairly good by all actors which made the series a more palatable experience.

I really liked the set of the mansion, it was well done.

Very funny, very good!
barowskia23 July 2023
HeartBeat is a riot! I have genuinely laughed in every episode, usually several times. The male lead is handsome, but even more impressive is his comic timing-he's very funny (watch the milk maid or shrimp scenes and don't laugh--lol!). He also has a soft side that works very well for the series--he is very much not a stereotypical scary vampire (though he can be menacing). Bringing a character from 100 years ago to today would be a stunning difference, and I love that the actor is allowed the vulnerability to show that--he's not "too cool."

The female lead has the same strengths--funny and vulnerable. She's quite pretty, but not over the top glamorous. That works so well for her character! She has a mind of her own, and strong drive to succeed. She's a wonderful character for the audience to empathize with!

The supporting cast is strong, and the special effects (what there are) work well. I'm iffy on the vampire friends, but they fit the 'over the top' goofiness of friend characters in many K-dramas.

8 episodes in and I already don't want it to end!

I love it
genesis187 August 2023
I love Heartbeat, this romantic comedy is too good, it has a bit of everything. I was hooked from the first episode, it makes you laugh a lot and also makes you fall in love. I think it's entertaining and worth watching, the leads are very talented and they really have a lot of chemistry.

During the development of the story you can find very valuable phrases that can impress you and that help the drama to shine more. As the title indicates, this one makes your heart beat a lot because of how exciting each episode can be, I didn't skip any episode and it made me want to keep watching more. It's my favorite so far this year, I highly recommend it.

It was really slow
vaishnavimzalkembf4 September 2023
The female leads carectors is really annoying the acting is also not good. Male leads has draged the show till the end i have skipped the movements when female lead was in the screen because it was relly annoying to watch.

The story is also really slow and doesn't give you any excitement. The side carectors are good they have done there part really well but the main leads dont have any chemistry. When they come on screen it just not feel good.

They shoud have develop a good and strong character of female lead. Female leads acting is also lacking i feelll, male leads acting was good and i have watch the whole drama coz if him.

Taec-yeon´s great acting as in Vicenzo.
mariaetorres7 August 2023
I like this drama a lot, although there was space for making it much better. The secondary storyline is a bit boring and too much but the main actors and their bond is great. I like very much Taec - Yeon since Vicenzo. He is a gem and so handsome. His outfits fit his perfectly. Regarding the main female Joo In-hae (Ji-an) her job here is quite decent. She is pretty much a new actress. It is important to understand that she has no sense of love or compassion and she has only anger in her heart because of her personal and lonely life. She had almost no hope, she only thought of surviving at the beginning. Her heart is only beaten every 2 for the renewal of the place she lived in or when her work contract is renewed. The dynamic of hate fighting is also fun. The clever part is to transform that into a new bond between them. He changed her and warmed up her heart as much as she warmed up his heart as well. Some fun moments with the gang, those are great actors as well. I hope for a nice finale in this drama. Heartbeat, fighting!

Undeserving female lead
pratimapradhn12 July 2023
I was very much excited to watch this when I heard that taec yeon is there and I was enjoying at first but as I kept watching there was no excitement, all my excitement faded when I saw the female lead. To tell you the truth the character of the female leda is not strong enough to grab the audience. Even while watching the drama instead of being excited for the romance, I just got excited for Taec Yeon and only him. The female lead whom I even don't know the name of got me irritated. There's no doubt that taec is super good but the female lead needs to go for acting class coz her acting totally sucks. And if this doesn't improve or if the episode doesn't intrigue me then I am not watching it for sure.
