Could have been so much better

Warning: Spoilers
A big fan of Lochlyn Munro, and he creates a sympathetic character.

However if his wife is so concerned and protective, it amazed me it took her until the very end to simply look the cult up online?! She would have found out a lot sooner.

I also found that Lochlyn's character got brainwashed a bit too fast..they should have at least shown some kind of time lapse. I enjoyed the character of the ex cult member, his shaggy appearance made him quite believable. Also the leering goons who kept watch over the cult were sufficiently creepy.

The character of the "gifted" kid was quite flat and she was resigned to being locked in to just a few different settings of sad.

This could have been a really good movie, but the ending alone was just way too neat and tidy and fast, but there's only so much I can expect out of Lifetime!

Only one annoying factor

Warning: Spoilers
I liked the idea. Was a little rushed but that's what you expect from a Lifetime movie, I mean it's only but so long, and I wouldn't want it to be longer.

Execution was ok, cinematography was good, but there was only one thing that annoyed me the absolute most. The wife's character. She was annoying for two main reasons....

1. Not listening to the needs of her daughter and husband which is why he was so easily manipulated. When you're good at home, no one can come between but again, for the sake of the movie, I get it.

2. Nearly every sentence that came out her mouth, was a stutter. I get it in the script and acting but it was like she over did it soooo much it was obvious she was acting. If not for that, I could have been wrapped up and enjoyed the movie because I like b-list and below movies but she ruined it for me. I didn't like her or her acting.

Brainwashing cult makes a good thriller
phd_travel24 August 2014
For a lifetime thriller this movie is quite good. A brainwashing business consulting cult targets a midlife crisis man. His wife battles to save him and their young daughter. It's quite plausible.

Good acting from the cast. The acting of Erin Karpluk as a wife dealing with her husband's brainwashing is quite good and she is suitably terrified and frustrated. Jamie Luner who seems to be in a lifetime movie every year is effective as the evil brainwasher. She is quite versatile and her eyes look really evil. Lochlyn Munro is good as the gullible husband.

Worth a watch.
