Several real-life prominent Dallas businessmen appear at J.R.'s memorial service, including Dallas Cowboys owner 'Jerry Jones', Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, and Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings.
During the filming of JR's memorial, Linda Gray asked if she could film Sue Ellen's eulogy to JR in one take. Even though the producers agreed and set up eight cameras to capture the scene from every angle, Gray still had to perform the scene six times.
The original draft of JR's Memorial had scenes featuring Deborah Rennard as Sly, JR's secretary from the original series. Later drafts of the script cut her out of the episode. Also, the producers invited Priscilla Presley and Susan Howard back to the show for the episode, but they were too busy to take part at the time.
