. . . which is slightly less than it took me to run a mile on my best day. The main success of this short is that it does NOT try to do too much. E.A. Poe's literary theory that a poem or short story should be put together to achieve a single effect for the art consumer at a single seating applies equally to film shorts (if not features, as well). Since the vast majority of my peers under 30 have a vague concept of "art" as every type is equal (to say otherwise brings accusations of racism, sexism, nationalism, elitism, narrow-mindedness, etc.), and anything anyone says is art can be substituted WITH NO LOSS for anything else anyone says is art, the Latin stands revised as "ars es brevis," existing primarily to randomly pluck from the cloud as screen-savers or work screen wallpaper, which is the point director\writer\producer\editor\cameraman Victor Pytko is making in DEATH OF THE WORLD'S LAST ARTIST. The three film locations and five actors he uses to get this thought across are perfectly adequate; it's too bad Victor is apparently a student, and not a film teacher, given the quality of the other jumbled visual assaults by which his two pieces were book-ended at the recent CMU film festival.
