When I first saw this short film I wasn't sure what to make of it. Which is why I had to watch it again. And then a third time.
At 2 minutes this must be one of the shortest films on IMDB. And one of the most powerful. I still don't know what quite hit me.
Sometimes you see something so different at a film festival that you sit up and you make a mental note of the director's name because you might be able to say,
"I saw his first film. It was strange, different and I am not sure if it was even a film."
Art piece or film? The powerful imagery in this short means it would be well suited to being an art installation. Apparently the painting from the film is also by the director. I can imagine a gallery showing the film and the painting together. It sounds pretentious. But when you find out it was made with zero budget, you sort of have to admire the tenacity of this film maker to get something made that makes you think.
What to think? I think a Gothic Art film is a new genre. I hope that this director goes on to make many more films and would love to see what he would do with a budget.
The film itself? You just have to watch it at a festival screening for the moment. It has won multiple awards already. And if I say what it means to me well, I think that would spoil it for you. Better to watch it yourself and interpret it your own way.
