The fête is to raise funds to build a primary school in the Polish refugee camp but in the middle of his speech - it turns out the new mayor isn't much of an orator or very bright for that matter - he is accused of involvement in land manipulation deal that could scuttle plans for the camp. When he drops dead he seems to have had a heart attack but Father Brown quickly realizes he was electrocuted. Inspector Valentine arrests the dead man's wife but Father Brown thinks the solution lies elsewhere. Meanwhile, Mrs. McCarthy is shaken by the sudden appearance of someone from her past.—garykmcd
