Sadly it slid down the politically correct pole with the addition of an enormously stereotypical female layer. Boring and it weakened this tough series originally based on interesting cases and a strong macho vibe - which included no -nonsense women. Once the string of shrill voices entered, it collapsed into a puddle of vanilla ice cream.

This is a terrible last episode. Martha is completely out of character. The ending is totally false and not believable. I think the creators studied the Soprano's last episode and tried to make it as nebulous as possible. Her old flame, which she was defending should not and could not exert the extreme reaction he had on Martha. She was much more intimate with Mr. Reader but stayed aloof from him. The Billy sickness was way overdone and totally cliche. And then, at the end they all so happen to be on the same bridge. Great actors, bad writing.
