- Sister Evangelina and nurse Cynthia Miller call on John Lacey to test his diabetes. He refuses to follow their dietary instructions and is something of a brute as far as his wife is concerned. The Laceys are thrilled to learn that their son Bob is returning home from America with his fiancée. When he finally arrives, they're afraid he's changed. Jenny cares for Mrs. Monique Hyde who will soon be giving birth. She faces a great deal of prejudice from her neighbors - she is black - but when she goes into labor, it's Sister Monica Joan who answers the call but doesn't relay the message. The sisters and nurses at Nonnatus House welcome back Chummie and her husband Peter. They move into Nonnatus as the block that housed them has been demolished. She has something of a surprise for them. The nurses, who until now have gotten around on bicycle now have a new means of transport available to them: a scooter. Fred however is more than a bit controlling when it comes to its use - he does have one problem however. Sister Bernadette continues her recovery from tuberculosis. She has taken to ignoring the many letters she's received from Dr. Turner. She makes a fateful decision.—garykmcd
