I know some state lottery officials now will advise winners on obtaining financial advisers and to seek out attorneys to protect winners and their assets- that being said, it's too bad not one person in his family or friends group could help him fend off all the leeches, but I guess it's hard to do so when you're also busy leeching. It's hard to shut off the money spicket when it's flowing right into your bank account.
Where to begin with Web Sleuths? I've been to the site- when my nephew was murdered and we were desperate for answers, it was one of many avenues to pursue- but we quickly learned how insidious and maniacal some on these forums truly are. When the investigator turns to some of the more reasonable people on the site, there's no mention of the insanity he also likely witnessed, but I have no doubt he did.
Much like the Reddit and Facebook groups that inevitably form for these wanna-be law enforcement officers, WS has the same insanity. People crawling out of the woodwork to point fingers and cast aspersions at anyone with a pulse, more often than not, completely innocent, absolutely no possible connection to the crime/case, but it doesn't stop these whackos from utterly destroying lives with accusations with no basis in reality. All one needs do is type in a search on WS for Moscow, ID student murders, and you'll find yourself faced with pages and pages of nothing but incoherent ramblings.
Even a stopped clock is right twice a day, and what wasn't said was how many innocent people had their lives upended in the 'search for the truth' by WS super sleuths. I got the distinct impression from what the officer didn't say but seemed to elude to, that this case was no different. The site owner takes this place far too seriously and these people need to either go ahead and become LEOs or walk away, because more often than not, they're more hindrance than help.
Stop encouraging these people and making them out to be some sort of heroes rather than the spreaders of gross speculation they so often are.
There's some really great groups out there, like those who donate their time and talents to do genetic research and spend hours upon hours hunting down DNA leads, but WS is most definitely not that.
