a Halloween episode in March

The daughter of a creepy religious Zelot ends up dead after what looks like a fit of demonic possession or possibly drugs.

We get a spooky ancestor who killed his family in a house that looks like that one from American Horror Story and an angsty family who has Jesus and old teeth in their basement.

There's lot of atmosphere and for me this was a bit of fun I don't take seriously and didn't get the feeling the makers of this series did, either. I agree that it's annoying if TV tries to force-feed you "faith" - but that wasn't what I saw here. The "woohoo, or WAS it the devil after all" part felt just like good old ghost story fun.

I really like what they did with this series. It used to be embarrassingly lame in parts - now after they revamped it we didn't only get better characters but apparently also "weird" episodes. Bravo! Now sing, people. Have a musical episode. And then do a Film Noir time travelling thing.

I love a good spook story

and while this wasn't particularly "spooky", it was a fun who-dunnit with an interesting twist.

Windell Middlebrooks and Geoffrey Arend make a convincing Abbot and Costello meet something scary and I wish they'd sent those two off on missions together more often. They have good chemistry and pull off some comedy. The story is a little bit of a downer, but what made this episode work, at least for me, was some interesting camera work in the first scene, a bit of a cheat in the scary basement and the final line which the person should not have known.

Is that enough to make this episode work? Not for everyone, but I got a kick out of it.

Ugh. Talk about jumping the shark.

This was easily the worst episode of the entire series, for a couple of reasons, really. If you're like me and are sick of the whole "weirdo Christians" tripe, then give this a miss because it's chock-full of it.

I usually give shows/movies with devil posession & "weirdo Christians" a miss, but I didn't this time, which brings me to my other issue - the reason I gave it a shot is because this show typically deals with straight murder mysteries, so I figured that probably, it'd look like a spiritual thing but would turn out to be something else, that ultimately it would be about forensics & not *really* about anything spiritual. It's not the X-Files, lol. But, let's just say that's not *quite* how it goes. It's like it was trying to be a Halloween episode, which was just stupid & way out of line with te rest of the show.

Lastly, it was full of little plot weirdnesses that made the whole thing feel cobbled together on top of it.

Give this episode a miss, for sure.

Lost Souls-Please Lose this Episode 1/2*

Warning: Spoilers
One of the worst shows ever. Were they trying to emulate the 1973 film "The Exorcist?" If they were, they did a pretty miserable job at that.

When a young daughter dies, we see the religiously stricken father claiming that his daughter died of her sins. We have a priest as an exorcist in this absolutely revolting episode.

The daughter who died and the one who survived did pretty good imitations of 1973's Linda Blair in delirium.

Of course, just who you would think is the killer turned out not to be, but let's say the killing was keeping within the family.

In 1934 the grandfather had killed his daughters. Very poor writing material here. Let's not talk about religious extremists. Enough already.
