Jen Kuhn originally auditioned for the role of Lisa. She was then was asked to read for Sarah and was ultimately cast in that role.
There are two references to Zumobi in the film. First, Jessica asks Paul if he "updated the Zumobi pitch." Later, Paul is seen wearing a Zumobi t-shirt. Zumobi is a Seattle-based mobile media company founded by Christopher Leps' best friend and collaborator, John SanGiovanni.
Other than Olvera Street, actors Dave Engfer and Jen Kuhn had never previously visited the sightseeing locations where they filmed.
In Paul and Lisa's house there is a Century of Light movie poster hanging in the living room. Century of Light (2011) is a documentary film also directed by Christopher Leps.
In the film, Sarah is staying at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, room 411. The scene was actually shot at the Beverly Hilton, but in room 758. 411 is a reference to associate producer Caitlin Dill's birthday, April 11th.
