The Beach Boys: Doin' It Again (2012)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Short but very good documentary taking a look at the history of The Beach Boys as they take on their 50th Anniversary Tour. The documentary features interviews with Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks as they discuss their entire careers as well as what they hope to do on the (then) current tour. Watching this documentary is somewhat strange to say the least. Throughout the documentary the band talks about how great it is to be back together and how they're looking forward to the tour. This is all cute but it's worth noting that the band broke up yet again after this tour so obviously things weren't paradise like they're trying to put on here. Still, fans of the band will enjoy seeing all of the interviews as the band discusses their earliest days together and also discuss why they went back into the studio. There's a ton of archival footage from their early appearances on television and there's also some rare footage of them in the studio recording the song "Good Vibrations." Obviously at less than a hour there's no way to fully dig into the band but for those not familiar with the group this is a good introduction. Most of the big songs are played here as well as the single "That's Why God Made the Radio."
