- The day after an alcoholic college professor who killed a young girl in a drunken accident is released from prison and returns home, he is run over by his own car.
- Professor Richard Seager is released from prison, having served a year for causing death by dangerous driving. His wife Martha, a vicar, tries to negotiate a reconciliatory meeting with his victim's sister Rachel Cliff, but it is a disaster and Rachel walks out. That night Richard is deliberately run over and killed by his own car. DNA suggests Rachel was in the car but her boyfriend, Adam Tibbitt, gives her an alibi. Lewis is surprised that Martha slept through the murder and it is apparent that the marriage was not as perfect as Martha made out. College master Dr Yardley tells Lewis that Richard was to be dismissed and his post given to his protégée, Stella Drew, though Stella says she was reluctant to accept it. Now dating Dr Hobson, Lewis considers retiring when the case is closed. However he is summoned by Dr Yardley when the remains of a Korean student, Soo, who disappeared some tine previously, is discovered in the college roof. Soo was the name the dying Richard Seager had written in the dust.—don @ minifie-1
- DI Lewis and DS Hathaway investigate the death of Professor Richard Seager who was run over by someone driving his own automobile. Seager had only recently been released from prison for having killed someone in an auto accident and foul play certainly cannot be ruled out. Dr. Hobson determines that he was driven over several times. Seager's wife Martha is convinced that Rachel Cliff, whose sister her husband killed, is the culprit as she was upset that Seager was released after only one year of a three sentence and a meeting with her earlier that day ended when she stormed out of their house. It seems that Seager was about to lose his college fellowship, likely to his young protégé Stella Drew. It also appears that Seager was going to leave his wife Martha, despite her protestations to the contrary. They soon have a second suspicious death at Seager's college. Meanwhile, Lewis tells Hathaway that he is going to retire and hopes Hathaway will apply for DI position.—garykmcd
