- After DCI Banks gets a telephone message from his younger brother Roy saying he's in trouble, he sets off to find him. During that time, the squad investigates the murder of 31 year-old Jennifer Lewis who is found sitting in her car on the side of the road having been shot through the head. DS Annie Cabbot is in charge at the scene until Chief Superintendent McLaughlin arrives with DI Helen Morton who will be replacing Annie during her maternity leave.
