- Randy Larson is a 20-year-old man with cerebral palsy who has virtually no control over his fine motor abilities, particularly finger dexterity. He wants to pass the final test given to him by an occupational therapist, which involves just being able to pick up coins or keys. If he passes the test, he will qualify for job training and independent housing assistance. If not, his parents will be forced to put him in an institution. Randy wants to get his own place, a job and the love of a woman he's been pursuing. But he fears that he will live his life alone, in an adult disability facility. One day, his father has a heart attack and falls unconscious before he can take his nitroglycerin pills. With Randy the only one who can save the dying man, he summons a new strength from deep within himself, picks up one of the tiny pills, puts it in his father's mouth and saves his dad's life. With new neuro-motor connections formed, Randy's life is changed forever, and he even finds love.
