A bad day for Carrie and Brody
Tweekums22 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
As the previous episode ended Saul discovered the evidence that Brody had indeed been turned during his time in captivity but as this episode begins it looks as if he will lose it before he gets a chance to show it to anybody as his bag is illegally searched and a memory card confiscated at the airport. We soon learn that he had anticipated trouble and had hidden a second card so that it would be taken instead of the one with the evidence on. He is the only person things seem to be going right for this episode. Brody is due to give a speech in the evening but his handler contacts him saying that he must drive to Gettysburg to move one of their assets who is about to be discovered by the CIA. He should have enough time but he suffers a flat in the middle of nowhere and he doesn't have a jack; to make matters worse the man he is moving is convinced that he is going to be killed so tries to escape into the woods. Carrie meanwhile is pleased to learn that the intelligence she recovered in Beirut is going to be presented at a debrief that evening; she naturally assumes that she will be the one to present it as she was the person who retrieved it but it turns out she was only invited in so her former boss could thank her for the work; not unnaturally she takes this to be a bit of a kick in the teeth.

This certainly wasn't a jolly episode as it appears that both Carrie and Brody's lives are starting to unravel; although I have a feeling that when the evidence Saul has brought back is presented to the CIA things may get better for Carrie and considerably worse for Brody… I'd be intrigued to see the writers get him out of this pickle! The story is of course a little far-fetched but it moves at such a pace that doesn't matter too much. The regular cast did a fine job as usual; I was particularly impressed by Morena Baccarin's performance as Brody's wife, Jessica, she was great in the scene where she had to give a nervous speech because her husband failed to turn up. The ending certainly left me looking forward to the next episode.

Warning: Spoilers
Saul is taken into a room so people can look in his bag. The man looking into the bag finds a slide and takes it away from him, but then when Saul gets on the plan we see that he still has the clip of Brody admitting to betraying his country. Back on American soil Carrie is working on a story late into the night. Jessica is looking at Brody's speech where he brings up his time as a war prisoner thinking he would die. Brody gets a call that the CIA are looking closer into him. Someone from the CIA comes to visit her and praises what she did in Beirut. Brody then goes to find someone who can help him as the CIA know about someone he knows. While Brody is trying to keep this person safe Jessica unaware is trying to organize for his speech tonight. While Brody is out trying to get the car free Jessica calls wondering where on earth he is. Carrie feeling so great about herself comes back to the CIA to meet with David. Carrie then walks in on a meeting thinking that she belongs there even though she is not part of the CIA anymore. When Brody goes to get some tobacco for the person he is trying to keep safe he gets away while Brody searches for him out in the middle of nowhere. Carrie wants to go home because her family are too close and she has been let go from the agency she loves so much. When Brody chases after him he kills him by tackling him down to the ground. Brody try's to save his ass by saving this man. All throughout this Jessica calls him so many times. Brody while calling his wife has to kill the man by twisting his neck. Carrie returns home to an empty house where all her troubles started. Carrie gets ready as if she is about to go out but just takes some pills and goes straight to bed very sad and alone. When Brody is not able to make in to the dinner it is up to Jessica to cover for him by making the speech. As Jessica gets home Brody gets there to hear the news of Jessica's speech she gave for him. Carrie is then woken up by a knock on the door which turns out to be Saul. Saul then shows Carrie the video file he found. Her reaction is what we've been waiting for because she was so close and right about who Brody was. Great ending but the storyline with Brody was less impressive to me.

EPISODE GRADE: B+ (MVP: Damian Lewis)
