- "The Voice" - Blind Auditions #2 - Sept. 11, 2012
The blind auditions continue. Let's jump in, shall we.
First up is Adriana Louise is a 22-year-old Brooklyn bartender. She feels like music saved her life after a family tragedy when she was a child. She sings "Domino" by Jessie J. She has a fun stage presence, a sweet pop voice, and is very poised. Cee Lo and Adam turn very quickly. Christina and Blake also eventually turn for her. She picks Christina who pushed really hard for her and whose record was the first one she bought.
Next up is Casey Muessigmann a wrestling country singer from Iowa. An injury ended his college wrestling career and he went through some depression but he's rebounded. He sings "Sweet Home Alabama," by Lynyrd Skynyrd. He sounds good, straight up the middle. Blake turns quickly and Cee Lo soon follows. He picks Blake.
Next up is Aquile from San Diego. He's originally from Wyoming, growing up a biracial kid in a mostly white community. He briefly had his jaw wired shut a la Kanye West after getting punched in the face. He sings "Your Song" by Elton John. Christina and Adam turn early and almost simultaneously. He has a smooth soul pop tone, a little John Legend-y. He seems confident and happy. Cee Lo turn at the very end. Only Blake holds out. He picks Christina.
Next up is Ryan Fogarty who is a tour production coordinator for Leann Rimes. We see him at work with her. She heard him sing at karaoke and speaks on his behalf for the show, saying he's great. He sings "Tomorrow" by Chris Young. He's a little shaky and seems nervous. No one turns for him. They all say that he just wasn't quite there but they say he's good.
We get a montage of folks for whom no one turned.
Next up is McKenzie Bourg who recently recovered from a debilitating virus that caused his organs to shut down, including his heart and he was put into an induced coma. He promised he would wake up for the Super Bowl and he woke up the night before. He's 19 and from New Orleans. He says he no longer takes life for granted. He sings "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People, accompanying himself on guitar. He's got a boy band vibe with the slight pop squeal in his nasally voice. Only Cee Lo turns and so, he picks Cee Lo.
The final contestant of the night is Julio Castillo from Chicago who was a child mariachi singer and has been doing it for years helping to support his family. He will be the first singer to sing entirely in Spanish. He sings "La Bamba" by Richie Valens. Blake turns almost immediately. He sings well and is very winning. On a big note at the end Cee Lo turns. He sings a snippet of a mariachi tune a cappella. He picks Blake.
