Synopsis

  • Present Day. Theresa runs screaming for her life in the asylum to get away from Bloody Face, who stalks her through the halls. She drags her dismembered husband and tries to get away, but Bloody Face grabs him. She locks herself in the dark room where Leo's arm was ripped off and watches helplessly as Bloody Face stabs Leo repeatedly.

In 1964, Lana's girlfriend, Wendy, ignores a knock on her door. Her friend, Lois, answers, it's early trick or treaters. Halloween is tomorrow. She sobs, feeling horrible about signing documents to allow Lana to get locked up. She's determined to get her out. Her two friends, Barb and Lois, another mutual lesbian couple, offer to spend time with her, but Wendy tells them that she will be fine and needs to be alone for the time being.

Later that night, Wendy takes a shower and lights up a joint. She shuts an open window in her house and walks into another room -- where she comes face to face with Bloody Face. "I'm a school teacher, the children... they won't understand," she pleads. He stabs her anyway.

In the asylum, the guards wake everyone up and order them to the hall. It's time for a room search. Pepper was hiding food. They find notes stashed in Lana's pillow case. "I don't need those, sister, I have an excellent memory," she says. "Yea, we'll see about that," says Sister Jude.

Sister Jude visits Dr. Arden, telling him she thinks Lana's memories are tormenting her. She prayed about it and thinks electroshock therapy is the way to go.

Cut to Lana screaming and fighting the treatment. Arden lets Sister Jude hold the electroshock nodes in place as they send electricity through Lana's body. She twitches violently and Sister Jude almost seems to feel bad.

Orderlies roughly bring Kit into the day room to meet Dr. Oliver Thredson (Zachary Quinto), the shrink sent by the court.

Kit tells Thredson he's not crazy and his wife's not dead, the men from outer space have her. Thredson diagnoses acute clinical insanity.

Arden surprises Sister Mary Eunice outside. She wants to know about the hungry creatures she's feeding. He wants to make sure she hasn't told Sister Jude and offers her a candy apple. She tries to resist, but he urges her to try it.

Shelley watches from her room as they come back inside.

Lana writes notes to herself after her treatment. She hears Kit talking to Grace, wanting to escape before Thredson files his report.

Dr. Thredson introduces himself to Sister Jude, wanting to talk about conditions in the asylum. He's seen her beatings and Lana's EST and he finds them appalling. He expected some form of therapy. She reminds him he's there to review one patient and essentially tells him to butt out.

Sister Jude goes to meet with parents who want to commit their son. Thredson joins them, over Sister Jude's objections. The mom describes her 17 year old son Jed, whose moods quickly change. Yesterday, his father found him in the barn having ripped open a cow and eaten its heart.

As they go to see Jed, Sister Jude threatens Thredson not to wear out his welcome on his first day.

Jed is locked up in a cell. One minute he's scared and asking his mother where he is, the next he's speaking in tongues and lashing out at Thredson, who says Jed needs to be immediately medicated. His eyes seem to turn yellow. "No doctor, that's not what he needs," Sister Jude says.

Lana and Grace take forced steam baths. Grace cuts her way free and lets Lana out of her tub. Lana asks about escape, but says Kit can't come, even though Grace is sure he's no killer. Lana feels betrayed by her girlfriend and has serious trust issues. Grace can relate.

Shelley comes on to Arden, saying she just wants to go outside for 15 minutes. He calls her a whore and she extols the virtues of sex. She ran away with a jazz player who cheated on her. One day he found her in bed with two sailors and had her committed. She tries coming on to Arden again to go outside, but he says she makes him sick.

Thredson tells Jed's parents the county hospital might be better for their son. However the asylum is planning an exorcism, and they need a doctor to be present.

In the common room, Lana writes more notes to herself, but won't tell Grace where the tunnel is. Kit sees the guards coming and grabs Lana's notes from her so they won't be found on her. The guards hustle everyone to their cells.

Sister Jude, Dr. Thredson, Father Howard and the priest prepare Jed for the exorcism. The priest kicks Sister Jude out, saying it's no place for a woman. Jed starts spewing gibberish and writhing.

Arden prepares for a romantic dinner at his home. The call girl he booked for an hour and a half arrives. He finds the anticipation more erotic than the act, he explains to the young woman who pretends to know what he's talking about when he mentions Chopin. She refuses his offer of wine and offers to dance if he puts on something with a beat, upsetting his vision for a romantic evening. He starts sawing away at the roast, saying how much safer she must feel now that the Satanic killer of women has been caught. She does not feel safe.

Back at the asylum, Thredson monitors Jed's vital signs. Then Jed looks him in the eye and says he's glad he gave him up. The Bible goes flying out of the priest's hands. Then, as Jed talks about flying, Father Malachai goes flying out of his wheelchair and crashes into the wall.

Father Thomas gets Sister Jude to watch over Jed while they tend to the priest. She goes in to check on him and he taunts her, saying it must drive her crazy to be the smartest person in the room but be held back because she's a woman. He mocks her for wearing red underwear and comes on to her, saying she's been with 53 men.

Flash to Sister Jude in a red dress in a club performing for young soldiers. She comes on to one but gets rejected.

Jed asks about the little girl in blue and Jude being so drunk she couldn't find her way home. Flashback to Sister Jude drunk driving home and running over a little girl in a blue dress. He screams at her until she rushes at him, hitting him.

Dr. Thredson and Father Thomas come back in and rush to sedate Jed. The lights go out in the asylum and Lana's door rattles. All the doors of the prisoners' cells open in the middle of the night. They decide to make a break for it.

    Jed goes into cardiac arrest.

Kit finds Grace and Lana running for a way out. Lana says again that Kit can't go with them. So Grace and Kit take off on their own. Lana screams for help that the killer is escaping. Guards come and beat Kit. Grace gives Lana the mother of all death stares.

Thredson starts CPR on Jed but he's foaming at the mouth and not responding. Finally, he quits fighting. He's dead. Sister Mary Eunice watches the scene in the doorway. A crucifix falls from the wall in Jed's room. Sister Mary Eunice drops to the floor.

Back at Arden's house, he makes his call girl wipe off all her make up and put on a nun's habit. She snoops in his things and finds his smutty books and photos of women tied up in poses; some are gruesome.

Waiting outside the room, Arden gets impatient and busts in. She tries to leave, but he orders her to lie on the bed. He directs her lie still for him and starts to approach her. When she's close enough, she bites him hard on the arm, kicks him in the crotch and runs away.

In the asylum, Sister Jude breaks the news to Jed's parents.

The next day, Arden checks on Sister Mary Eunice. He tries not to leer at her in her nightgown. She asks about the creatures. She covers herself up for him, but when he walks away, she tosses off her covers. The crucifix on the wall jumps.

Sister Jude commends Lana for calling the orderlies. As her reward, she gets to watch while Kit and Grace are punished. She has Lana pick the whips.

Lana apologizes to Grace, who responds with a "screw you." Kit tells Sister Jude not to blame Grace, so Jude says he'll get Grace's 20 lashes. Grace and Lana shudder as she canes him.
