Strong performances all round make this a hugely enjoyable new series
silly_twisted_boy13 December 2012
Comparisons to The Inbetweeners are inevitable, as the series follows four sixth-formers who talk about sex a fair bit, and one of them's a bit simple. However, it keeps the grossest of its humour (which doesn't hit anything near the worst of the Rudge Park boys' adventures) contained in the dialogue, and really the funniest moments are pure character. Brilliant performances from all four leads make it hard to pick a favourite. Whenever a joke might lag, the girls stay utterly committed and keep the entertainment levels high. Supporting actors are strong too as well, with Colin Salmon, Dolly Wells and Jassa Ahluwalia all giving memorable turns. Hopefully everyone will be back for the second series.

Great show, has its highs and lows but definitely worth a watch!
cheeky_chika2 January 2013
22 year old girl here. Just read through some of the reviews and I was surprised to see the negativity! I watched this show initially with my boyfriend and his mates in the heart of Coventry who all love the inbetweeners. I personally have not watched it, however all of us agreed that Some Girls was actually really good... and that the best bit was the acting. The character development is ace, which is why the dry humour works so well. I can't fault the script either. I like shows that pay attention to detail and visually some girls ticks that box. All characters are relatable... its not crazy like skins but for an educated London 2nd gen immigrant girl who has lived in council flats her whole life going to school in your low end inner city secondary and who had friends similar to Holli, Amber, Saz and Viva, this show sure does bring back memories. I also think its aimed at a younger audience, maybe 15-20. It's a great laid back show to watch that'll have you smiling all the way through.

Easy watching
bobbiwibble21 July 2020
I stumbled across this while scouring Prime Video after accidentally letting my subscription roll into another month, and I'm glad I did.

I was surprised to find it compared to the inbetweeners everywhere because even though I enjoyed both shows I never really made any connection between the vibe of each show.

They all do a great job for young inexperienced actors although the girl playing Amber hams it up a bit too much for my taste (which could have been a deliberate choice from the director)

When I finished I thought they could have fleshed out the other 3 a bit more, but as it's mostly done from Vivas perspective, it's all coming through the lens of a 16 year old girl.

It was also nice to see girls sticking together in tv show rather than the endless power-struggle that makes up most on-screen all-female friendship groups.

And actually, what impressed me the most as the former London schoolgirl who got practically eaten alive by the other students, I had zero anxiety or resentment watching it. Saz and Holli would've publicly screamed at me for bumping into them - and when I was watching Skins or the inbetweeners or anything else along the same lines, some part of me was always aware of this whereas watching Some Girls I forgot and was along for the ride. This, despite the (very funny) humour being a bit predictable, is pretty impressive!

The only negatives I can really think of is that some of the girls' accents sound a bit forced, like they've been told to exaggerate? And funnily enough I thought all the adult acting was weaker than the kids. Also (not really a spoiler) while Viva and the girls are obviously going to have a naive perspective on it, there should have been a clear "that's not ok" point about Jamie's potential history in one way or another.

It's not a laugh riot but I'm definitely going to watch it again because 3 seasons flew by

Great, loved it, cant wait for next series
lisabarrow972 January 2013
Honestly... I loved it! Made me laugh all the way through on every episode! Quite a lot like skins and the inbetweeners. I'm watching them all over again now, and can't wait for the next series either. I Don't see how people can't like it, but I guess they have different tastes, this is definitely my type of series but can't believe it was only 10 episodes long, was a lot like inbetweeners but in my opinion a lot better. The blonde girl is always making me laugh, reminds me of my friend,I'm Currently on the 1st episode again now, as I love it so much! Don't know what else to say, very enjoyable and watchable. Definitely 10 out of 10 for the comedy overall.

A last real laughs
sophiaciting1 October 2013
I guess we are all different in our tastes, and I for one don't know the comedy rules as many of the people who write on here do.. Is it like inbetweeners? Not really and its definitely not like skins. It has its own atmosphere, perhaps I would say that inbetweeners was more bizarre with its scenes which led to laughing so much you can't breath but on the laughter scale this is laugh out loud, I particular love the Ozzy Teacher and I think the acting of everyone is simply brilliant. All in all with any TV series you have to grow to love the characters, they are the integral part of the process that keeps watchers coming back and that's why the shows mentioned above and others like Gavin and Stacy become so popular. I gave it 10 out of 10 because I have enjoyed every single episode there is always something new and exciting and its funny all the way through as well, which is important for a comedy and its not too silly like a bad education, its believable comedy and I for one enjoy dry humour the best, not stupid stunts and over the top jokes.

Stop comparing a guy's story to a girl's. This is not the inbetweeners, but it is "some girls"
guinevere_tomas16 December 2013
Im glad I could be the first review.

Some Girls is a girl centric show focusing on four best friends with different walks of life. Unlike American shows that speak to a generation of wealthy white people, this speaks to a REAL generation of young people.

Instead of hiding behind white privilege, Some Girls embraces diversity, in a way no American show ever could.

Not only is this the most interesting show about teenage girls most people haven't seen in ages, it allows a quartet of young women to be as funny, if not, MORE comedic than their male counterparts.

They have attitudes, dirty mouths, have sex, drink, and don't allow to be kicked out of the boys club. If anything, they've made their own club. The "Some Girls" club. And Im glad Im apart of it.

One thing that really surprises me, is that it's centered on Viva. As a dark skinned Black girl, there is not enough of this on television. The show is told through her narration, and she's the perfect leading lady. Fans of Awkward Black Girl can rejoice. Somewhere, someone has answered our prayers.

It's not only just diverse based on race, but on lifestyles, religion, size, and class. Not all white people are rich. Sometimes they're middle or even lower class*gasp*.

I beg anyone without a region free DVD player, get one, or find this show online, or ITUNES. It deserves to be watched. There is finally a show that doesn't ignore that the world is a diverse one.

Funny and realistic
I hate how some are criticising the blonde girl so much. Loads of girls are like this, but it doesn't make them bad people. It also annoys me ow some people find men sleeping around funny but when it's a girl they call her names! I thought the acting was excellent. I went and researched the girls' ages in real life, the oldest being 30! I found that astonishing as they are so believable as young girls. It's a comedy sitcom, not the next Shakespeare. Laugh and enjoy.

And a half so far
Headturner118 February 2022
8 for Dolly wells. I've been wanting to watch this for some time as i love these types of shows. Firstly it's nothing like the Inbetweeners. I found it more like Ackley Bridge but I liked that better. I'm on season 2 now and am going to finish tonight. Oh to add someone said it's available on Prime? It's not for me but I'm in the US. It is however available on Roku TV. I'm going to finish tonight and see how it goes I'm editing to add to the id**ts saying this is a rip of of Inbetweeners! Have any of you watched it? I reviewed it as well. Also no one here is obviously a Peep Show( cult classic fan) because then you'd get it. These girls don't drive or wank all the time and look for sex all the time. Nothing like Inbetweeners!

Some Girls can't act more like
happycarrot6817 July 2023
Imagine taking Derry Girls and The Inbetweeners and making a diverse version to appease...this is what you get. A mess of unfunny scenarios, characters who can't act and a s h) it com that would appeal to 11 year olds.

This is simply awful, a script that someone knocked up in their dinner hour delivered by actresses (loose term) who would struggle to get a part in a school play

As usual it's content over quality as you see way too much on TV at every opportunity and this a prime example. It's simply funny or entertaining in no sense at all, you actually feel sorry for the characters in it it's so appallingly bad. It will have an audience but once they react their 8th birthday it will wear thin on even them

Horrendous rubbish.

Its old and so no pc but funny
henri-2684214 June 2022
Its probably one of the best comedies on BBC 3. Its funny, and sweet and real enough. Its not gritty or gross just fun and you don't get that often enough. Very likeable characters despite their backwards phrasing. It is like being back in 2012 instantly and I enjoyed being in my childhood again.

It's a female inbetweeners except a hundred times better.
GiraffeDoor6 March 2019
I hated the Inbetweeners but I actually really liked this. It was not aggressively gross or depressing and the main characters actually had a real friendship. In case you're wondering I am a male.

I won't deny it's like the Inbetweeners. It could even be said to be an Inbetweeners rip-off except that it's not trash.

We have four sixth formers. Vivi is the slightly more lucid one who narates the story, Amber is the blissfully stupid one with the most impressive sexual history, Holly is the crass one and Saz is the neurotic one who has no idea how to talk to the opposite sex (she's my favourite, I LOVE her).

I enjoyed the stories. They felt like more than the typical "dear diary" high school girl rigmarole because we're working with such disctinctive, sympathetic characters.

The tone is mostly humourous with some swell jokes. It's not above getting a touch gross but not in an intolerable way. There's a real sense of sisterhood and comeraderie as these friends survive high school (or sixth form as they call it) together.

Yeah, maybe it is an inbetweeners rip-off. But it's a hundred times better.

Awful
louiseclaydon14 December 2012
As the previous review states, people have been comparing this to the inbetweeners, this is because the characters are exact replicas of the inbetweeners cast.

The inbetweeners characters work as boys and NOT as girls.

The blonde girl, who is a replica of Niel is utterly shameful, her character is just embarrassing to watch, the acting is very poor and she simply portrays and chavvy sl*t. She is not funny and is just cringey to watch.

The story line i have watched so far (one episode) is of one of the girls trying to lose her virginity. The whole episode resolves around this, a pretty pathetic story. The script is really unimaginative and the characters lack likability. I have found that I can't relate to any character (I am a 22 year old girl who vividly remembers being a teen) and will certainly not be watching this again.

Plain Stupid
ninjaduck721 January 2013
The story line within itself is really really bad. I've watched over 4 episodes to get a well rounded judgement on it, I can't believe people actually consider this a film which you can watch. It is a replica of the Inbetweeners where the Blonde girl is comparable to Neil, which she is not. The first episode is based on some girl who want's to lose her virginity, while the other ones already have lost their virginity, later on the episode 3 of them admit that they were virgins as well. The blonde girl was the only one who had sex just like in the inbetweeners where Neil got some and Simon, Will and Jay were virgins. The blonde girl is a sluttish chavvy character who is not remotely funny... One of the characters brother is a perverted freak who masturbates under a table and then touches his food. This show is by far the most despicable show I've witnessed on BBC3, I'll tell you this now... Do not watch the SHOW!!

Garbage inbetweeners rip off!
fannyhunterx28 November 2014
I Personally love the Inbetweeners it's hilarious!! But watching this you can tell its the same story but with girls but the acting is just unbearable! I watched a couple of episodes but couldn't stand it in the slightest! This is for simple minded people with no good sense of humor Everything about it is terrible, I do not have a good word to say about it at all. Wouldn't even consider watching this if it was the only thing on television.

I honestly don't understand how this show is still running into a third series and what's harder to believe is that people actually enjoy this? The story lines are just garbage but the acting is worse. Just goes to show anyone can be famous!!

A failed attempt at mimicking a successful pre-requisite framework
funktionbarhire2 January 2013
I don't wish to further support the ongoing and established criticisms regarding the show's failed attempt to copy the Inbetweeners' framework, however it seems impossible to view this atrocity without noticing the unbearable similarities within the two comedies. However, unfortunately, the only comical aspect of this show is its complete and utter failure to deliver. Nevertheless i can indeed confirm that the hilarity of the show's incompetence is somewhat compelling.

Firstly, the unbearable use of the tall, dim-witted group member used in conjunction with a foul-mouthed, sex obsessed member and also a smarter and more sensible member of a group of four friends attending a comprehensive 6th form ironically has an opposing effect on the reader. I really do wonder how quickly the producers brainstormed the foundations for this series and who had indeed contributed to such ideas.

The attempt at personifying the whole social demographic of lower class school students achieved nothing short of a hindrance to the general perception of female school children today. The use of characters and comic timing is consistently poor, not to mention the extremely low budget acting skills demonstrated by the majority of the cast. However i must admit that i see potential in Adeleyo Adedeyo's future, it's just unfortunate that this show won't provide her with the career foundations that she possibly deserves.

I highly doubt, and highly hope, that this show does not continue with another series. There are plenty of current developments that would deserve the airtime and provide a much more significant impact on its target audience.

I'm a firm believer of highlighting complimentary material where appropriate, but unfortunately, the only factor of this shows competence is that it categorically lacks in effectiveness to such an extent i find it hilarious.
