Imagine a boring version of Xevious that moves like Time Pilot
I'll give a point to arcade sound, even though it pretty much sounds like Xevious. Another point awarded to the first few seconds of the game because there was potential for a space shooter/bomber game.
If you're a big fan of the first Vanguard game (like I was), definitely do not play this. It's awfully repetitive. Shoot nodes on the ground, shoot the center node, repeat. Harassers abound with no way of fending them off unless they're in front of you. No bosses? No change in game play at all? Nope.
The game is not offensive, but extra-ordinarily humdrum given the creative games released at the time.
