This is a television spin off the BAFTA nominated movie of the same name. That was done in one take, with no disguised cuts like the movie 1917.
The movie ended with lead character Andy Jones (Stephen Graham) restaurant in ruins as he hit the booze.
Now some months later. Andy's Sous-Chef Carly (Vinette Robinson) has opened Point North but is in need of additional investors.
With potential investors dining tonight. Carly is pestered by her mother leaving her hot tempered Sous Chef Freeman (Ray Panthaki) to mind the shop. This includes dealing with a new chef Johnny Bale who is out of his depth.
The first episode has a long segment done in one cut before the opening titles start. Like the movie it is visually too dark.
Also like many dramas set in restaurant, there is very little new here. The first episode lacked spice.
Carly now a chef in her own right has a trajectory similar to Andy's. Maybe she bit off more than she could chew and Freeman has walked off. All the time, Andy is stewing in self pity. It seems Graham is a minor character in this show.
