In a way, this was a nice caesura:
There was a case with Cassie and Cordell, but they're only really carrying evidence to another district.
In doing so, however, we got another angle on Cordell's continuing ptsd. This time, a little more diminished, with him a little more competent and in control.
I am, however, worried about the locked evidence case. Since nothing was tampered with and both could act as each other's witness, why not report it? (Then again, why were they carrying evidence about a case in which they took part, rather than having an impartial Ranger do it.)
Will that be used to question his competence later, even though small?
However, the information we got as they discussed the case & contents was really good at moving the seasonal arc along.

I loved that we got a look into the bbq joint run by Cas and Ben's family when they made a dinner stop.
Love even more that we got several scenes involving Ben and Liam, which explained where they are as a couple.
This relationship has both moved very fast (jumping in, as they said), but also very slow to viewers who didn't get to see every step on screen.
---
Another combo to love: Captain James and Trey, with Trey's mother showing all the concern that a mom would.
There's also a good amount of tension coming from the fact that the system has discouraged and devalued POC. Excellent to see the show remembering this.
---
Finally we have Stella and Auggie.
Stella is both to blame for his resentment and yet taking a very hard fall tonight for a lot of accumulated issues the last couple years.
Same for Stella and her father.
Cordell has the perfect right to not believe her. She's violated his trust and abused his feelings a lot. (Just not this time, Cordi. Maybe you should have punished her all those times she DID wrong, but not tonight.)
Auggie, meanwhile, is the quiet "hero" child gone off the rails. I'm hoping they don't just focus on Stella not having caused the party, but also that Auggie did and also left his sister in jail instead of explaining.
(Remembering, of course, that she left him with unfair guilt and a burden when she set up her father in season one with the hitching post.)
---
All in all, so many directions and plot points covered in a very satisfying episode.
The actors rocked, but kudos this week belong to the writers. There were a lot of plates spinning and none of them fell.
