Rick Hoffman & Sarah Rafferty step up their game

Warning: Spoilers
This is an excellent episode and my respect for the writing team grows week to week.

I want to underscore what makes this episode so special.

This show was already operating in rarefied air going into this segment. They had nothing to prove.

But they decided to take it up a notch anyway.

I remember an old CSI episode with Hoffman as an arrogant private eye. He is a very smart actor, specializing in playing roles with mannerisms that deliberately are off-putting to both the audience and his fellow characters. He is the guy you love to hate.

In this episode he takes it up a notch, being alternately obnoxious and then, out of the blue, after an outburst, the audience starts to wonder if deep down he really cares...?? That is a tricky bit of acting and he pulls it off.

Don't overlook Rafferty as Donna. She already has shown that she does the best reaction shots in Hollywood. Here she plays a character who did not want to get re-involved in the lawsuit arc but did anyway, only to get trashed in the mock trial.

And she is brilliant.

Great episode.

In Front of a Mock Jury
Hitchcoc23 July 2023
We are back to the principal case and a mock trial where people play the figures. Louis takes the role of Tanner and uses all his pent up ruthlessness to attack the witnesses. He's really quite good. Unfortunately, Donna, who now has a lawyer, lets herself get dragged into the fake proceeding. She is decimated and feels betrayed by those she thought she loved, especially Harvey. Hardman becomes even sleazier. As awful as he is, he has skills to slime his way with the voting members. He is working like crazy to get the case settled and throw Harvey under the bus. This sets up some delightful stuff, heading into the next episode. When the partners vote, there is something that should not be a surprise.
