Worth seeing if you get the DVD
This short film is included with the DVD for "A Streetcar Named Desire"--which isn't particularly surprising. It discusses how the play was adapted to film and consists of various interviews--with the likes of Karl Malden, Kim Hunter and Elia Kazan (who directed both the play and film). It also discusses how the production progressed. And then, oddly, the play is explained scene by scene--making it something you should NOT watch before you see the movie! So, understand it IS filled with lots of details you shouldn't know about the film if you are unfamiliar with it! Then, the recognition the film received at the Oscars concludes the short.
"A Streetcar in Hollywood" is worth seeing if you love the film. It's interesting to hear Kazan say that in MANY ways, Brando was like his character, Stanley, in the film! Wow...that is NOT a very complimentary thing to say and says a lot about the guy! It's also cute hearing Malden talking about winning the Oscar and his stupid coat! See the short and you'll know what I mean.
