War is Hell
thegodofdin26 October 2022
Hard to imagine anybody watching this movie and wanting to fight a war.

Not demonizing Ukrainians, not glorifying Russians (except the first and final lines).

Great military detail. Excellent realism. Only special effects leaves much to be desired.

Almost no plot. Fighting all the way. Didn't bother to distinguish such things as "good guys" and "bad guys". All that there was, were guys trying to survive.

Really make you think, what they were fighting for. One can complain for the seeming lack of purpose, but how often do we really know about that very purpose?

Peace is good. Let's hope for peace.

An honestly brutal movie

Warning: Spoilers
They claim the movie takes part during the battle of Mariupol, but everything hints at Popasnaya. Firece fighting takes place, no backstory, no attempts to convince us that X guys are good and Y guys are bad, no going in depths for their motivation and this is exactly how the movie shows the often reality of armed conflicts, just people who care (or not) from both sides stuck in there each for their own reasons. No demonization or dehumanization, jsut people getting ripped apart with artillery. It opens as a sensless briefing, here's time, here's the task, do it, the rest is on you. Everyone gets grinded by the gears of war and the movie ends with new arrivals, the cycle continues. An interesting touch is both 'teams' soldiers picking and putting orthodox icons back into the 'red corner', just goes to show the whole how. Uh, yeah...
