In the final segment when Emily takes Ruth's pulse, she does so with her thumb along the pulse line; as the thumb has its own pulse this would not be possible to detect someone else pulse, as you would only be feeling your own. However, Emily is not said to have any experience in healthcare, nor is she taking the pulse in any context of medicine, so she's bound to make a mistake such as this.
