But for those too young to really understand the complexities of the Iranian hostage crisis, I suppose it could be necessary. However, there's so much time spent trying to weave an untrue narrative of Carter being some noble humanitarian who just didn't know or understand the complexities of the Middle East.
But for those of us who were alive and cognizant, we know what happened and how it developed. Having a close family friend who was an hostage, we followed the unraveling travesties as they were laid bare- even despite the media at that time trying their best to portray Carter as a complex and intelligent mastermind, we were all too aware of the Ignorance and stupidity of his entire presidency.
What this documentary is leaving out is the havoc Carter had already recked upon our country; from embargoes and gas lines to hyperinflation and insane interest rates, his entirety of the far too long presidency almost destroyed our country, and the lives of the hostages.
The Iranian wooing of the Shah and his regime was 100% about oil, and Khomeini seized upon the vast disparity of the haves and have nots. There were innumerable examples of the fall of Iran that fell upon the feet of the Carter administration, yet they turned a blind eye and pretended everything was fine.
I'm unsure if there's even any reliable sources for what actually occurred in the 4-year debacle that was Carters administration, but this is at least a somewhat plausible explanation that may omit some information, but does at least offer a lot more than others have brought to light.
