Zombie Make-up Effects were designed for efficiency. The application (glue & cosmetic make-up from the dollar-store) took thirty-minutes, & its removal required merely soap-&-water. This was a requirement in that Richard Sangeleer was a Zombie, the Director, & the Cameraman.
Initially, Richard Sangeleer was to wear prescription zombie contact-lenses. When they didn't fit, & there was no time to re-order, he had to wear non-prescription lenses. Thus, he can't see at all when he's performing the stunt on the van at dusk.
Denise Baxter is the Executive Director of the Ashland Art Center (a non-profit in Ashland, Oregon) where many of the scenes at night take place. After everyone had left for the evening, Denise Baxter & Richard Sangeleer would make-up the cast, prep & rig the location for lights & blood, shoot until the cast became tired, then break it all down before the morning.
There was no crew except for the cast, Richard Sangeleer, Denise Baxter, & the friends & family who were on location at the time.
The lighting-kit was two hundred-watt stands & two sixty-watt clip-ons. For every camera set-up, whether he was acting in the scene or not, Richard Sangeleer had to move these four lights w/extension-cords throughout the many locations.
