Sam has a guardian angel
Tweekums2 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
After the rather shocking conclusion to the previous episode, where it looked as if Sam was imminent mortal danger, we get a surprise at the start of episode…Sam wakes up in hospital and the man we thought was trying to kill her explains that he is trying to help her and has been since before the attach in Tangier. When she leaves the hospital she arranges to meet the MI-6 man keeping the Hourglass file. He tells her a remarkable tale; the Hourglass organisation set up a plan to gradually take world power and there plans are finally coming towards their ultimate goal… plans that were first put in motion five hundred years previously! He also tells her that three of Byzantium's board members are part of Hourglass and that they see her as a threat despite her only just having heard of them. She, along with Aiden follow this lead; it takes them to an estate in Kent where she realises she was taken as a child. They don't get to reminisce for long though as a group of men interrupt and try to kill them! Byzantium meanwhile are still searching for the mole that is leaking to MI-6 and trying to find a way to stop the Turners from suspecting Sam of being involved in the break in; to this end they plant evidence pointing to an innocent couple; knowing this will inevitably lead to their deaths Deacon's conscience starts to get the better of him.

The tension is really kicked up a gear in this episode and the mystery only deepens; is Sam really involved in a five hundred year old plot and just why do Hourglass think she is a threat to them? After all they first tried to kill her a year before she'd even heard of them. It was a great twist to have Sam's assailant turn out to be her protector; I really didn't see that coming at all. The more we learn of Byzantium the worse the organisation appears; first we learn that members of its board are part of the ancient Hourglass conspiracy then we see just how far they will go to protect Sam's cover. People disturbed by the sight of blood will certainly want to look away during the fight in the oast house as it features some very bloody moments for a TV show.

When the series started I wasn't sure it would be able to sustain the mystery but now I'm more optimistic; the way we are being drip fed more and more information makes me optimistic that we'll get a good ending and I'm sure there will be a few more twists before then.
