ABC is the real life tale of Velegai Flomo- a young Liberian woman who is battling all odds to make herself educated. Her life is tough as not only she has to plan her own life for the future but has the additional responsibility of looking after her young daughter. This is a socially relevant film which carries the underlying message that there is no age limit to learn and receive education. Velegai makes a good educational choice when she decides to sit with fifth graders in order to learn in the same school where she goes with her young daughter. From the outset, this film's commitment to the issue of education for women is revealed with the message that future is educated by educating girls. "ABC" is a simple, straightforward film without any surprise plot twists and other narrative devices with which one usually associates 'fiction film' genre. As a short film, it is just above the average duration mark of 10 minutes. Its key highlight is its honest stance in order to avoid undue controversy. One can quote as an example how it subtly talks about war and devastation in Africa but eschews showing it. It is not possible to replicate all possible scenarios of suffering. Hence, it is in this indirect manner that one comes closer to understand another person's suffering. As part of 'Berlinale Talent Campus','ABC' won the prestigious Berlin Today award 2012.
