Not the worst Mania, but not the best either
josh2310942 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
There were certainly a lot of great things about this Mania and a few questionable decision on behalf of the boss but an all round good mania.

The night starts off with a world title match for the 2nd year in a row, Daniel Bryan defends against Sheamus this was extremely exciting for me as it would be the first WWE PPV event i would be watching live, now this match lasted 18 seconds yes 18 freaking seconds, Sheamus wins after a massive boot to the head, and we have a new champion. Now the under card of this Mania was extremely poor, don't get me wrong Orton Kane, Big Show and Rhodes for the IC Title are not bad matches, they just don't really deliver anything for the fans to remember. Another terrible part about this night is the extremely poor backstage promos which just seem to be time fillers and pee breaks for all fans at the event and at home.

Now let me get to the high points of this night, the first high point is the Hell In A Cell End Of An Era match between 2 future WWE hall of famers that being of course Triple H and The Undertaker with the added stipulation of Shawn Michaels being the special guest referee. This match is extremely brutal, the best example of that is the amount of hits Taker took with a steel chair to the back. The cuts and bruisers on his back were evident. The match ends after a brutal tombstone, this takes Undertakers incredible winning streak at Wrestlemania to a perfect 20-0. The 3 men walking out together added to the billing of the End Of An Era. The next match for the WWE Title puts the 2 best wrestlers in the company. Chris Jericho and CM Punk. The 2 both claim to be the best in the world, this match proved they both are, an incredible match which didn't get a lot of praise due to it having to follow up Hell In A Cell. CM Punk retains forcing Jericho to tap to the Anaconda Vice. The most anticipated match in wrestling history is finally upon us. Once In A Lifetime the face of the wrestling industry for 6 years John Cena and one of the most successful men in entertainment The Rock. These 2 have a match for the ages, the crowd is insane and are extremely vocal throughout the match, the match is back and forth and the Rock gets the win after he counters an attempted People's Elbow from Cena on Rock into a Rock Bottom and gets the 1 2 3.

All in all this event is saved by it's upper card. World title match should not have been 18 seconds, bad decision from Vince. A poor lower card is saved by an extremely strong upper card.

End of an era!!!!
liamamor7 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Wrestlemania was built around one match all year!! The Rock vs John Cena. However, it was the end of an era hell in a cell match that stole the show for me.

30 minutes of carnage and full of drama. HBK also played a big role as the special guest referee who at one stage nearly cost the Undertake the match and his 20-0 streak. Both Triple h & Undertaker are getting on but both men can still put on a terrific match which was one hell of a battle and just as good or if not, better than their last two previous Wrestlemania bouts. Undertaker won the match after a tombstone on the game. The drama was still not over as all 3 men walked up the ramp together and honestly it was emotional if your a true wrestling fan. One of the greatest wrestlemania matches of all time and definitely match of the night and match of the year contender.

Rock & Cena of course was the match everyone wanted to see ( including myself ) and it was very good and the ending was perfect for the Miami crowd and all attitude era fans. But I don't think that will be the last time Cena & Rock meet in the ring. Wrestlemania 29? Maybe

Cm Punk & Y2J had a great match some very good spots and a fitting finish. Great win for Punk.

Apart from these three matches the rest of the card was pretty average.

Overall great wrestlemania. 9/10

WWE WrestleMania 28
DannMarshall2 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Another excellent WrestleMania in my opinion! This time I watched it on WWE.com online Pay Per View. My views are in parenthesis.

* The pre-show saw Primo and Epico retain their Tag Team Championships in a triple threat match against The Uso's and Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel. (A nice match to get things started. Didn't think the titles would change hands, but I think that Kidd and Gabriel are going to make an awesome tag team.)

1. Sheamus beat Daniel Bryan to win the World Heavyweight Championship.(This was one hell of a quick title change that I immediately cracked up after I saw it.)

2. Kane beat Randy Orton. (In my predictions I picked Orton to win. The ending was pretty wild and they both fought a good match that either one could have won.)

3. Big Show beat Cody Rhodes to win the Intercontinental Championship. (In my predictions I picked Rhodes to retain. It was great to see Show get his moment while Rhodes had a great run with the title. Show's KO punch really looks like it hurts bad.)

4. Kelly Kelly and Maria Menounos beat Eve and Beth Phoenix. (Didn't really care for this one. However I find it funny that Maria now holds two victories over Beth Phoenix. Maybe she's earned herself a shot at the Divas Championship.....)

5. Undertaker beat Triple H in a Hell in a Cell Match. (Awesome, just an awesome match!!)

6. Team Johnny beat Team Teddy. (I predicted that Team Johnny would win as well and it was nice to see The Miz get the pin for the win. Hopefully this will be the end of those long loosing streaks for Miz and Drew McIntyre. As of now John Laurinaitis is in control of both brands.)

7. CM Punk beat Chris Jericho to retain the WWE Championship. (Great back and forth match.)

8. The Rock beat John Cena. (Awesome match as well. Rock and Cena gave it their all but on this night it was the Rock that came out on top. Great main event to another excellent mania.)

Thanks!!

The Once in a Life Time Match and End of an Era in 1 show
morantjavonte22 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
WrestleMania 28 Thoughts

WrestleMania 28 was the 28th annual WrestleMania that took place on April 1, 2012 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. It was the highest grossing PPV event in professional wrestling history at the time with also an attendance set at 78,363. The main event that was build for a year was John Cena vs. The Rock. It was arguably the most anticipated WrestleMania match in the WWE history. Dubbed the "Once in a life" with The Rock making his return to the ring, John Cena being the company's most top drawing face in those years was booked to face him in the dream match. Other important matches on the card featured were Undertaker vs. Triple H in a Hell in a Cell match Dubbed "End of an Era Match" with HBK as Referee. Undertaker wanting to not only defend the streak but payback for the beating that arguably no one gave him at WrestleMania in his entire career. CM Punk defended the WWE Championship against Chris Jericho as the storyline was made personal to Jericho mocking Punks family of there drug issues.

The Good - Well Undertaker vs. Triple H was undoubtedly the best match of the night. The story told and chemistry that both future legends put up was amazing. Many 2 counts that put everyone on the edge of the seats as it was very possible that Undertaker was getting his streak over. The match was so amazing and had so much happening that it's arguably nearly impossible to review every moment. Also despite being the most anticipated match, Rock and Cena had no chance of surpassing Undertaker/Triple H. However Cena vs. Rock was a great main event. The crowd managed to put energy above it to give it a bigger push. Cena mostly carried the Rock due to Rock's years of absence but Rock still managed to perform well. The WWE Championship match was good as Punk and Y2J always had good chemistry.

The Meh - The mid-card was a bit of a meh. Kane vs. Randy Orton was pretty good but not that memorable. But Kane's Chokeslam from the top was one of the coolest moments from the night. Big Show vs. Cody Rhodes despite being lame was ironically a cool moment for the Big Show as him walking out as the champ felt special to him in his documentary. Divas match was okay but crowd didn't care of it.

The Bad - That stupid Team Johnny vs. Team Teddy was so long and dreadful to watch. At the time the brandsplit ended and no one really saw the point of even having a GM. It was just a silly storyline. Cody Rhodes vs. Big Show got ruined by the time they had and of course the BIGGEST screw up of the show was the opening of Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus. In my opinion this not only was a stupid booking idea but it officially killed the World Heavyweight Championship. Sheamus beating Bryan in 28 seconds made the crowd furious for the next few matches. However it was the start of people demanding Bryan to be pushed better.

Overall - A much better show than the previous. The 3 big matches arguably are the ones that keep this PPV worth of re-watching but honestly they are good and they boosted the show. WrestleMania 28 in my opinion is top 3 of WrestleManias of the 2010s (maybe the best).

Score - 8 out of 10: Really Really Good

0 = Terrible: 1 = Bad/Boring: 2 = Decent: 3 = Good: 4 = Awesome: 5 = One of the Best of all Time:

1. Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan: World Heavyweight Championship - Not Worth It

2. Kane vs. Randy Orton - 3/5

3. Big Show vs. Cody Rhodes: WWE Intercontinental Championship - 1.5/5

4. Kelly Kelly and Maria Menounos vs. Beth Phoenix and Eve Torres - 2/5

5. Triple H vs. Undertaker (Hell in a Cell): End of an Era - 5/5

6. Team Johnny vs. Team Teddy - 0/5

7. Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk: WWE Championship - 4/5

8. John Cena vs. The Rock: Once in a Lifetime - 4/5

Best Match - Triple H vs. Undertaker

Worst Match - Team Teddy vs. Teddy Johnny

Most Memorable Moment - The Rock and Cena staredown and crowd roaring

Top 5 Performers

1. Triple H and Undertaker

2. CM Punk and Chris Jericho

3. John Cena

4. The Rock

5. Shawn Michaels (as Ref)

The Three Main Matches Make The Show
carologletree14 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This was a strong show, mostly because the three main events delivered. The undercard wasn't too bad, and the show had a great atmosphere.

World Heavyweight Championship Match: Daniel Bryan (c) vs. Sheamus - This was a disgrace! An 18-second Championship match?! Are you kidding me?! Bryan is distracted for one second, then Sheamus wins the Championship with a Brogue Kick just like that?! To do this is bad enough, but at a WrestleMania?! Unacceptable! RATING: DUD

Randy Orton vs. Kane - This match was okay, but it was a TV quality match for the most part. These guys don't have much chemistry, and the wrestling was mostly basic. It did get good in the last few minutes, though. Kane wins with a second Chokeslam. RATING: **1/2

Intercontinental Championship Match: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. The Big Show - This wasn't too bad for a big man vs. little man match. It didn't overstay its welcome, which is definitely nice. The Big Show gets his WrestleMania moment by winning the Championship with a Knockout Punch. RATING: **3/4

"End Of An Era" Hell In A Cell Match with Shawn Michaels as Special Guest Referee: Triple H vs. The Undertaker - In-ring wise, this match is epic, but it's the storytelling and pure emotion that make the match the classic that it is. HBK's involvement made it that much more dramatic. These two titans engaged in an absolute war that will never be forgotten and truly felt like "the end of an era." The Undertaker wins with a second Tombstone and goes 20-0 at WrestleMania. RATING: ****3/4

12-Man Tag Team Match to Determine The General Manager of Both Raw and Smackdown: Team Johnny vs. Team Teddy - This match was entertaining for what it was. A nice way to cool down after the epic battle we just witnessed. Team Johnny wins, and John Laurenhitis becomes manager of both brands, which didn't last long. RATING: **1/2

WWE Championship Match: CM Punk (c) vs. Chris Jericho - This was a fantastic back-and-forth technical contest. Punk and Jericho have amazing chemistry, and the match got especially exciting and dramatic toward the end. I rate this just slightly below their match at Extreme Rules a few weeks later. CM Punk retains his Championship by submission with the Anaconda Vice. RATING: ****1/4

The Rock vs. John Cena - The most hyped match in WrestleMania history, it was everything we expected from a spectacle and atmosphere standpoint and far surpassed expectations from an in-ring standpoint. The Rock is in just as good if not better condition than before, and Cena was a great opponent for him. The finisher kick-outs were also very well done. The Rock wins after Cena attempts a People's Elbow with a Rock Bottom. RATING: ****1/4

This show is far superior to the show the previous year. It's mostly the three big matches (particularly HHH/Taker) that make this a show worth checking out.

RATING: B+

Fun, but Disappointing Night
bowski2109623 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
First, let me say that I was not looking forward to Wrestlemania XXVIII at all. The six weeks of build, overall, were very underwhelming, and the WWE Championship match was being treated as a joke, with the championship sitting in the background in favor of an alcohol storyline. Oh, and THIS Business~!! Still, we had the main event between John Cena and The Rock. I mean it was more than a year in the making, I should have been pumped for this, right? Well, no. I, honestly, couldn't have cared less. The week before Wrestlemania XXVII, Dwayne announced that he respects John, but he just doesn't like him. OK, Whatever. A year later however and that is STILL the only thing fueling this feud. So, suffice to say, this card looked weak. Thankfully, though I was able to enjoy it. Most of it. Well, 3/4 of it. The show opened up, unsurprisingly enough, with the World Heavyweight Championship match between Daniel Bryan and the challenger Sheamus. And then in 18 seconds my favorite wrestler was buried as if he was nothing more than dog crap. So for the next hour I was in a depressed state, and a negative mood, so pulling out the positives in any of the under-card matches was going to be a lot harder than normal. Randy Orton vs. Kane was an average match. Nothing too good, but nothing bad. They had a rematch on Smackdown that was much better and probably should have taken place here, but whatever. Then the I.C. Championship match. My favorite title being held by one of my favorite wrestlers (Cody Rhodes) and he lost it in five minutes to a 40 year old Big Show. Wow. I mean it was a nice moment for Show, but Cody is your future. You just don't do things like that, especially when your ratings are going down. Next was the Divas match. It sucked. Then finally that dreadful first hour was done with and we got into the second hour with the "End of an Era, Hell in a Cell match" between The Undertaker and Triple H with Shawn Michaels as the Special Gust Referee. Could they have added any more stipulations to that? Anyway, the match started off pretty slow with Taker dominating, but around the 10 minute mark HHH turned it around and hit a spine buster to Taker on top the steel steps. From then on it was, for lack of a better phrase, an emotional roller-coaster. Undertaker is by far my favorite wrestler of all time, and HHH has always delivered in big time matches. Pedigrees, chokeslams, sledgehammers, chairs, tombstones, I mean this match had it all, and it was all made better by the amazing performance from Shawn Michaels. The only complaint I could really have is they didn't really use the Cell, but I'm really nitpicking here. This was great and by far the match of the night. To follow this up we got the 6 on 6 tag team match. Didn't really pay attention to the match and it really only served as a cool down match for the crowd seeing as how nothing could have really topped the HIAC match. In the end John Laurinaitus' team gets the win, and not much else really needs to be said. Next, we got the WWE Championship match in the co-main event of the PPV between CM Punk and Chris Jericho. Two of my favorite performers fighting for the top prize in Sports entertainment, and overall they delivered. The beginning kind of sucked since they just felt the need to add a stupid stipulation to the match, where if CM Punk got disqualified then he would drop the belt to Jericho. What's the point? Just let them wrestle. Anyway, after we got dumba$$ remarks from Jericho about Punk's family, the actual match got underway and it was 20 minutes of greatness. There was mat wrestling, counter wrestling, chain wrestling, an amazing reversal sequence near the end where Jericho countered a hurricanrana off the top rope into the Walls of Jericho, which Punk got out of. They even did that suplex spot on the outside of the ring from the apron, which is always teased, but never delivered. In the end Punk locks in the anaconda vice and gets Jericho to tap, to retain his WWE Championship. Then the main event preceded by a ridiculous Brodus Clay segment, and BS concert that NOBODY CARED ABOUT!!! When the match finally got underway, these two men did nothing, but prove to me as great as they might be to some, neither of them are Stone Cold Steve Austin. Like it or not Austin ALWAYS delivered in big time matches, and that's because he gave the crowd what they wanted. Just two guys beating the hell out of each other. Instead, we get two terrible in-ring wrestlers going for a mat classic. Dafuq? Headlocks, arm-drags, GROUND BEAR HUGS??? Ugh. Overall, I didn't hate this match, but I liked it about as much as Randy Orton and Kane from earlier, so...yeah. The ending came out of nowhere, and it sent the pro-Rock crowd home happy, so I guess it was the right move, but in all honesty, I never cared who won. I never cared to see this match. And I sure as hell, never care to see it again. If Rock really cares about the WWE he'll do the job next year at Wrestlemania XXIX to a young up and comer, like Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, or Cody Rhodes and really give them a nice push. Overall, I'd say a 6/10, because the HIAC and WWE Title matches together took up about 2 hours while the rest of the night (first hour aside) had a good feel to it. If you haven't seen it yet, you don't really have to, but if you ordered it on PPV, then it's fair to say you got your money's worth.

Wrestlemania 28 Review
Kevan-409-3406129 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
1. World Heavyweight Championship - Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus This was a very disappointing start to the biggest PPV of the year. Only 18 seconds long while these two deserve 20. 1/10

2. Kane vs. Randy Orton This match actually surprised me. I was very entertained by the action throughout, and the pace really quickened towards the end. Good finish as well. 7/10

3. Intercontinental Championship - Cody Rhodes vs. The Big Show This was just too short in my opinion at just over 5 minutes. It wasn't a bad match but it could have been better if it was given a few more minutes, 5/10

4. Eve & Beth Phoenix vs. Kelly Kelly & Maria Well this could have been worse, still not worth the watch. 2/10

5. Hell In A Cell Match - The Undertaker vs. Triple H Shawn Michaels was the guest referee for the match,, which really added to the drama. These two put on an amazing, main event worthy match. This one topped their fight at last year's Wrestlemania. It did get pretty slow but that would probably be my only complaint. Great hell in a cell match. 9/10

6. Team Johnny vs. Team Teddy Nothing special here, they kept it short so it never got boring though. I found it funny that Team Johnny captain Otunga never actually saw any action. 5/10

7. WWE Championship - CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho This was another match that was main event worthy. Great action from start to finish. There were a few cringe-worthy spots as well which really added to the match. There was a great sequence at the end of the match as well. Awesome title match. 9/10

8. John Cena vs. The Rock The match that we all waited a year to see, and it truly lived up the hype. These two put on a great show for over thirty minutes. The crowd was really behind The Rock here. It was a very fitting end to this year's Wrestlemania. 8/10

While the undercard wasn't anything special, the Hell in a cell, Punk/Y2J and Rock/Cena matches all made the pay per view special. I would recommend the DVD for those 3 matches alone.
