Jay Baruchel and Glenn Howerton in BlackBerry (2023)

Goofs

BlackBerry

Edit

Continuity

When Jim sits down with Mike and Doug in a coffee shop, Mike is seen with a jelly-type donut in front of him while Doug is seen with a chocolate dipped donut in front of him. But when the waitress brings the check moments later in the scene, the donuts in front of them are inexplicably switched.

Factual errors

It was not just the competition of Apple's iPhone that bedeviled Research In Motion's Blackberry share in the smartphone market, but there was also the rise of Google's Android operating system. This OS provided numerous competitors with inexpensive software for their own handset smartphones, achieving a marketing ubiquity so overwhelming to RiM's proprietary software that the final Blackberry handset products used Android software instead.
Although it does have agreements with Canadian regulatory bodies like the Ontario Securities Commission the SEC, which is an American government entity, has no authority to conduct independent investigations within Canada's borders.
A RIM engineer is shown telling a colleague that Apple will have a third-party App Store, following the announcement of the iPhone but prior to its on-sale date. When the iPhone debuted, Steve Jobs said publicly that third parties would have to use web technologies to offer software to customers. The App Store was announced a year after the debut of the phone, in July 2008.
Any year where July 1 falls on a Sunday, Canadian employers would observe Monday, July 2 as the statutory holiday. The events here seem to indicate that on the date of Monday July 2, the office was open which would not happen.
At the end of the film Mike Lazaridis (Jay Baruchel) opens up a consignment of brand new handsets, takes one out of the box then switches it on and it boots up immediately. A factory fresh Blackberry would take a lot longer to boot up completely for the very first time than the five seconds or so depicted in this scene.

Revealing mistakes

When the RIM team watch Raiders of the Lost Ark, it is announced as being letterboxed, while actually showed to be the pan and scan 4:3 version.

Miscellaneous

Michelle Giroux's name is misspelled "Michelle Grioux" in the end credits.

Anachronisms

When Mike and Jim go to New York City in 1996, there is a United airplane taking off in the livery used after the 2012 merger with Continental Airlines.
When the team created BlackBerry Messenger, Doug (Matthew Johnson) is seen wearing an Alesana (US Band) t-shirt. The scene is set in 2003, a year before the band's formation.
RIM employees are shown playing Doom (1993) in widescreen letter-boxed.
Once Mike & Jim arrive in New York City at JKF air port in 1996. A 1998 Ford Crown Victoria taxi cab is seen out front of the air port. This vehicle was not released until 1997
In the beginning of the movie RIM employees are playing Command & Conquer: Red Alert Remastered (2020) from 2020 in high definition on flat LCD screens. The original Command & Conquer: Red Alert (1996) came out in 1996 in the end of November, while this scene takes place in summer.
