Tanzania: The Royal Tour

Edit

Factual errors

The host has obviously done virtually no research to speak of. Among other things, he refers to President Hassan as the first "woman of color' to be the head of a country. Some of the other heads of state who were "women of color" of the have included Khertek Anchimaa-Toka, who became head of state of the former Tuvan People's Republic in 1940; Sirimavo Bandaranaike of Ceylon (present-day Sri Lanka), who was elected in 1960; Indira Gandhi, who became the head of India in 1966; and Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan, who became Prime Minister in 1988. Sheikh Hasina has been prime minister of Bangladesh for eighteen years.

As for ethnic Africans, the first such female head of state was Elisabeth Domitien, who became head of state of the Central African Republic in 1975. Samia Suluhu Hassan became President of Tanzania in 2021. To date, the total number of female "persons of color" who have served as president or prime minister of a country has been 31. Of them, 16 have been ethnic Africans.

Miscellaneous

Peter pronounces the name of the crater as "en goro en goro." The n is not pronounced like a western N with an "en" sound but as a soft nnn sound.
Peter refers to the Maasai bomas as "villages". This is incorrect. A boma is a ring of dagger bushes / thorn bushes, within which are a number of rondavels (huts). It is not a village.
