According to the Code Enforcement Association of Texas, this was the first time a code officer had been injured or killed on duty in the state.
In March 2016, Adam Ward was given a lethal injection for shooting and killing Michael Walker, a code enforcement officer who was taking photos of junk piled outside the Ward family home in Commerce, about 65 miles northeast of Dallas.
During the scene in which Michael Walker gets shot by Adam Ward, actor Marc Isaacs (Michael Walker) accidentally fell in the street, then got up to continue running. That take was used in the final edit.
While driving on the street where the real shooting took place, one member of the cast, the DP, and the director were approached by the real Ralph Ward who at first assumed they were random people who had come to see the murder site.
A location in Greenville, Texas that was used for an office scene was next door to the building where actor Audie Murphy enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. Although only 16 at the time, he used 18 as his age for enlistment. Murphy become the most decorated soldier of WWII.
