Summaries

  • A film adaptation of a nationally acclaimed anti-bullying musical follows four high school students: Daniel, Caleb, Emma, and Bri as they struggle to navigate the chaotic hallways of high school while learning the power of their words.
  • The story follows the lives of four high school students in various social roles within their school. Whether the bully, the bullied, or the bystander, the stories give insight into their public personas and private struggles. To her peers, prom queen Bri seemingly has it all, while at home she is dealing with the pressures of her parents' divorce and her mom's addictions. She pushes people away, disguising her pain in order to maintain the charade of popularity, secretly wishing people could see her shadow story. Emma is a new girl whose first day of school reveals her insecurities as she struggles to fit in while meeting others' expectations. A post on social media is spread around the school forcing her to wrestle with the truth that she is more than what others say about her. All star Caleb is balancing the intense pressure of academics, sports, relationships, and maintaining his high social status when he reaches a boiling point. A single action of bullying brings instant regret while a video of the incident goes viral. He battles to make it right, knowing that isn't the person he wants to be. Daniel is living his own nightmare inside the hallways of his school. He represents the 1 in 3 students who are bullied at least once a week in schools across the country. His story leads us to the climax of the film where we see the mental health struggles of students who feel abused and forgotten. It is the profound reality that kids must grasp, in order to understand the power of their words and actions. This truth is reiterated in the challenge at the end of the film by Justin Simmons, Safety for the Denver Broncos. He shares his own story of depression and the difference his peers, parents, and coaches made in his school years by Speaking Life to him. He brings a strong Speak Life challenge to students about the power of their words and actions toward their peers. The inspiration inside this challenge has been life changing for over 375,000 students across the nation.
