Michael Portillo takes us to Wales
safenoe8 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Michael Portillo, the erstwhile Conservative Minister under Thatcher, is incredibly charming and his railway series kind of represents a new rail (pardon the pun) of his storied career. In this episode Michael dons a lime green jacket and he looks very dapper indeed.

It's sunny in Cardiff and the rest of Wales in this episode and I was hoping to get a glimpse of Doctor Who, which is filmed in Cardiff. Michael also has a fun time in the lobby of the Welsh Assembly.

Michael takes us to Barry Island, which isn't really an island. Actually we learn it was an island many years ago, but the dock and railways linked in the Island to the mainland. We also learn about working class miners drawn to the Barry Island beach all those years ago. What is it that draws white people to sea and sand? Stuff white people like I guess.

Brecon Mountain Railway is a charming station, and even though the weather's damp, Michael keeps up good spirits.
