Inspired by Logotherapy, the "Third Viennese School of Psychotherapy" developed by Viktor Frankl. One of the paintings on James' wall is that of a dismembered Jewish prisoner in a concentration camp. This was to allude to some of the horrors and realizations experienced by Viktor Frankl when he was in Auschwitz. That is to foreshadow James' search for meaning throughout LOGOS.
Logos is meant to be the first part of a trilogy - Logos, Ethos, and Pathos.
James Carroll is a Jesus Christ archetype. His initials are J.C. James' role could be interpreted as messianic, failed as they may be.
Although LOGOS shares common themes and characters to Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, e.g. James Carroll, like Oskar Schell, is a recluse whose father died in the World Trade Center, it was written and shot 2 years prior to the publication of the book. LOGOS screenplay was finished in 2002 and first shoot was completed in 2003. Any similarities are purely accidental.
The title LOGOS, in addition to alluding to Logotherapy, also references James' Logical approach to life as well as biblical term meaning "meaning" or "word."
