A well crafted story
jptheactor30 May 2012
Well crafted script, captivating background score, Neat and simple story telling. Apt casting though I felt that the female lead was out of character.

The story happens in a single location. The characters don't move and the story is told in real time. Hats off to the director to have used only static shots in telling a war story. Being a war movie,It is interesting to note that you leave the theater without taking sides. No matter who wins the war, the consequences burden humanity for centuries to come

Congratulations to the first time director, Anand.

I found this film captivating and compelling from start to finish. It certainly opened my eyes with regards to the ongoing struggles and hardships in Sri Lanka. The film captures the devastation and effect of land mines can and do to thousands of innocent people and children. The lead actress, Neelima who was played by Eelam Tami gave a stellar performance in her attempts to save herself and her child from a determined Sri Lankan army Lieutenant that wanted to capture her for terrorism. Throughout the film, I was engaged and intrigued with the history of Tamils, and as a westerner, it made me want to learn more on it's history and what we can do to help in getting rid of land mines not only in Sri Lanka, but around the world.

A must see film!

This is a very good movie made in a very low budget. The dialogues are so powerful and overall, the movie is quite engaging. This shows how much local people suffer due to land mines problem. It is so ghastly to even think of babies dying in land mine blasts, it is real and happening in Srilanka right now. It also shows how unsafe it is to live there even after the war is over. I was deeply moved to see the baby left alone in the land mines. Director Anand Maiyur Srinivas indeed did a very good job, very well thought script, four or five characters in this film and shot in just one location. He has conveyed the message clearly. This is also a real time movie, impressive.

Never boring

An interesting film, which gives a snapshot of the daily struggle for normalcy in a region torn by ethnic warfare. It manages to show several different perspectives of those who live there, and the inevitable clash between them. The events take place on a small piece of land - the minefield and its surroundings - but unfold rapidly and keep the viewer interested until the very end. Some of the opening sequences showing the broader landscape are also quite pretty. Must be beautiful down there, if only it were peaceful… I liked the music, too - still trying to decide which of the two song is more mesmerizing. Not too pleased with the acting performance of the main female character, but the rest of the cast did a great job (as far as I can tell, since I don't speak a word of Tamil).

I thought the movie was very interesting. It showcased the problems that are not known to everyone around the globe. We all know that there's a war going on but to what extent do people know what is involved during a war. What happens to the innocent people, villagers and bystanders who don't ask for this war. They just have to accept it and hope to survive it somehow. When I saw this movie for the first time, I didn't know what to expect. But after watching the movie, I've come to realization that war doesn't solve anything. This movie depicted very well in showcasing what happens to an individual whose identity was mistaken for that of a terrorist. Even though the actress kept repeating herself that she wasn't a terrorist, one small allegation from someone, it can put an innocent person's life in danger. I thought the movie was very well written and depicted. A must see movie.

Honest effort from Director Anand

I watched Mithivedi in London and found the movie to be captivating with fresh dialogues. The director has taken a middle path even while highlighting the hapless plight of the Tamils in Sri Lanka. The protagonists have played their parts very well and the script has been well etched given that the whole story happens in real time. What works for the movie is the story is told with view from both sides without taking any entrenched positions. For a real time movie and shot in one single location, the director has done well to keep the proceedings engrossing for 80 odd minutes. Hats off to Director Anand for an honest effort.
