I really wanted to like this
htrdder_uk1 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As a guy growing up with Smokey and the bandit, cannonball run etc this peaked my interest.

I was so disappointed in the first episode that I probably wont watch the rest.

Everything seemed so scripted. All of his kids were so camera pretty, but never actually saw them work on a car. Maybe a clip of them sparking up a welder. Or better yet his daughter says "make sure the distributor timing is perfect" on a car that hasn't used a distributor in 20 years!!

Then the race a the end is so Hollywood. Goes to the last corner. How convenient. Are all of these facebook racers really seeling out just to get tv time?????

I'm a woman who knows nothing about cars
meglives4 September 2022
And I binge watched this while my husband sat on his phone constantly showing me videos of real races. He claims this show is fake and staged.... Not even intrigued with the cars.

I thought he would like this show since he owns a Scat Pack, but he ended up nitpicking it.

The twins made me laugh, they were always dolled up for the camera! And the oldest daughter was always a cute hot mess working in the garage. It's a cute family dynamic they have going on in this show.... No matter how "fake" it may be.

But again, I'm a woman with no knowledge of cars and I found this interesting. My husband with lots of knowledge wasn't a fan.

A lot of ingredients, not much cake...
TD_Diamond23 February 2023
I spent the majority of the time watching this show analysing how it got to air...

The conclusion I invariably came to was that the big guy (Sam) actually paid for the show to launch the careers of his daughters seeing that he'd been a stuntman in Hollywood for decades.

There were a few things that led me to that conclusion:

1. The format of the show isn't really 'connected'. Or rather, the only connection between parts of the show - stunts, race prep and racing - is that big guy has a daughter (or two) in each part.

2. In the stunt parts, the two daughters who apparently do that work in real life, are filmed standing still most of the time preening themselves doing little hair flicks in front of the camera. Also the stunt work they're doing doesn't really look like stunts to be honest. Big man seems to have that covered to be honest.

3. The eldest daughter and her love for cars and racing is obvious and she seems very talented. The family members she's got supporting her however look like they've been roped into it and are in real life completely inexperienced. This is evidenced by the fact that one of them is asked to get 'balanced' parts delivered and completely fails to do so even though that's a basic task within the race parts industry. In fact, it's not just weight but also after an engine has heated up that much, blueprinting is also another method I would have thought was used to check for heat warping but it wasn't mentioned. So that didn't quite make sense to me.

It's trying really hard to be something but ultimately falls short. Not for a lack of effort mind you. More like they just rolled the dice with this show and didn't quite make it.

Not bad
Yeah I have seen just about ever car show. But I liked the way this is slightly different in its components. Works for me and the Mrs as we loved Gotham cars gig and the Rust valley restorers. So naturally we wanted to try it out. It's just a bit of fun and not as good as some other shows, but nevertheless entertained us well.

Whilst it might not delve into too much technicality it is still educational in its own way. But I can recommend that you do at least try it out and see what you think of the format as you might dig it.

Plus it helped me to learn more about the US side of drag racing and the elements required to be involved in the area.

Mixed Emotions About The Show
kzzkdmzpqc12 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So... it is not a completely terrible show, but some of the stuff (as a car guy) is just waaaay off and if we are honest, complete disinformation when it comes to them describing some of the mechanics of cars.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!

Example: In Season 1, his daughter is describing a Porsche Cup Car (GT2/GT3) and shows us that she either doesn't know what she is talking about or how terribly scripted this show is.

Watch Episode 5 to find out what I'm talking about. Otherwise, it's a fairly entertaining show to watch passively, if you're a car person. Will I continue to watch this show, in the hopes of them improving the "reality" of the show? Yes..... Do I actually think they will step up their game? I think that it's unlikely, but we will see.

I really wanted to like this
mweaver-1040120 September 2022
I really wanted to like this but I just couldn't. Honestly it's just boring. The family seems nice and after seeing Maloof and the daughter on Fastest Car I was really interested to see this. I was hoping it would show them building some cool cars and more importantly seeing how the stunts are planned, practiced and carried out. Car build shows are a dime a dozen so that aspect interested me less than the stunts. The problem is it's all so scripted and with no meat to any of the segments that it's completely unwatchable. They only show you some graphics about how they fixed up these cars, with no real context. Most people don't realize that a $5000 build on a race car won't get you far, but they never explain that so it just looks like they added an air filter and some tires...boring. The stunts are 15 seconds of this is what we are going to do, then 30 seconds for the shot you saw in the movie, then the daughters patting themselves on the back. The format is crap, the script is boring, and there are about 200 better car shows out there. Skip it.

It's about time..
chrisw5783 September 2022
You can't help but to love this family. They're funny, talented and fast. And they definitely know how to drive!! You may be used to the other "car" shows that has a, beep, beep, beep, every other word but not these guys. They keep it clean. Love it!!

It's nice to see Netflix finally adding more car related content that is clean especially. The only trans your seeing here is one in the car! Watch it!

Ignore the other useless comments, their just used to typical trash on other channels that are staged This family seems like genuinely good people that play fair and don't talk trash and that's a real winner any day.

I don't know who the audience for this is
ethanaa-571256 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Every interaction is extremely fake. In the first two episodes combined there's about 2 minutes of "engine building". They pull an engine just to drain the oil, then buy a new engine to replace it because the oil has metallic flakes. There's no teardown or analysis of what went wrong.

A guy w/ a 3000 dollar budget gets some tires, an intake (that you never see), and a roll cage to help him win a 5 lap race against a car that is supposedly seconds faster per lap.

They claim to have cut 300 pounds out of a car by removing an extra battery, carpets, and "some other stuff".

Every detail is glossed over. No one turns a wrench. They talk and then show a graphic of a car and highlight different parts to indicate that they did something there.

AMAZING!!!!
User4528417610 September 2022
I normally don't leave reviews but after watching the WHOLE show myself and then reading these few hate comments I'm absolutely confused on what show these few reviewers have watched, CAUSE ITS NOT THIS ONE. And i feel obligated to tell you all the TRUTH.

I ACTUALLY watched the whole show TWICE, not just the first half of episode 1. (Unlike these few reviewers) Not only is this Netflix show refreshing to watch but this family is actually LEGIT! He actually has a race car shop since 1984 And his beautiful daughters have actually been working side by side with him even before the show!! Amazing what a second of research will get you!!! LOL. It's crazy to see these people try to hate on a show that only promotes LOVE, HARD WORK, and FAMILY/UNITY. Maybe they preferred the more depressing drama shows on Netflix. Regardless this show is absolutely PERFECT for both the (real) gearheads and even the novice !! Very informative and CORRECT. It keeps you on the edge of your seat constantly and you wont be able to stop watching!! IT IS A MUST WATCH. So different from what i have ever seen done before with a car show.

Im sure all these wanna be mechanics writing the negative reviews have never held a wrench a day in their life and it shows so bad!!

These girls in the show are BAD TO THE BONE and are taking over the car world , so i can see why these guys are jealous.

WOMEN being POWERFUL. 10/10.

Same thing Netflix has been doing for years
mrsillygeek31 August 2022
Car Masters, now this..

Over-edited, over-scripted, and cheesy all around. What's the point of including several drone shots of a 50 km/h race? Everything is so slow and predictable...

The show follows Sammy Maloof (father and "leader" of the family) the most. You can take what he says in the trailer and that's pretty much what he will have to say for the entire season. Then Netflix decides to edit every sentence to have control on meaning and rythme. It makes it so unnatural, you wonder what's true and what isn't.

It feels like those cheap movies with trending actors. Why is Netflix producing all these "fast-food" shows?

Made by people who know nothing about cars
S_C_Coleman27 September 2022
The potential for this show is incredible - a great family, some real skill with engines and cars, and very likable characters.

Unfortunately, the show has been scripted to the very ends of the earth so that it is not a reality show, but scripted sitcom-esque production with heroes, villains, protagonists, and a whole lot of incorrect vehicle nonsense.

I am sure that the family are horrified by the rubbish that the writers and producers made them say to camera. For example, "Porsche 911's are mid-engined...". No, they're rear-engined, and have been since day-one. This incorrect information was accompanied by an equally incorrect animation showing the engine in the wrong location. This is just once example of many in each episode.

I have no doubt that the Maloof family are skilled in what they do, but they have been scripted to look like they are amateurs and know nothing.

It's a shame - I watched the series wanting to like it, but ended up feeling very let down.

C'mon, Netflix. You can do better.

Love it
alejandromacia10 October 2022
I may not be an expert, but I love cars. And I enjoyed the show very much. Some reviewers complain that it was over-scripted, but to me it was only scripted enough to make it entertaining. I would love to see season 2.

If you take a look at the ratings of the individual episodes (probably made by the biggest fans of the show), you find some very good ratings. But the overall rating of the show is very low. I wonder why is that (add you may notice, I'm not an expert in IMDb ratings or reviews).

My favorite Netflix cat show is Cat Masters - Rust to Riches, but this one is now second to that one.

Remember when Megan Fox leaned over Bumblebee in Transformers and spewed some nonsense car jargon? That's this entire show. I have no doubt the father is legit but unfortunately it's so over scripted it's incredibly painful to watch for any person that has any mechanic knowledge whatsoever. Watching the one kid eyeball that air filter like he was shopping for lumber at Lowes bout made me spit out my coffee. I usually give these shows a couple episodes but I couldn't even finish the first episode. Watching a bunch of kids pretend to work on cars reminded me of my 3 year old nephew using his play tools on his toy car. It was borderline adorable.

Made for "Car guys" that have never held a wrench.
charlesfnelson5 September 2022
It would be great to see a show filmed and edited for real gear heads, even a scripted one, but this ain't it. All kinds of nonsensical commentary from the daughter just for sound bytes. Things like tuning the distributor in a late model production car instantly turns off anyone who knows anything about them.

The stunt stuff is overly dramatized and looks like a weak attempt to launch careers of the daughters. Two episodes was enough to see its just generic product placement fodder and vroom vroom porn for people who pretend to know the difference between blinker fluid and wiper blades. CG is essentially rendering stunt driving obsolete, might as well aim for modeling careers right?

We all know you didn't have 5 days to get a car ready for a race, nobody does that. Production, fpv drone pilots, track time, and a long list of other factors are scheduled well in advance. Why do they even pretend? If you didn't get it done in time, you wouldn't air it.

When are producers going to realize they are being outdone by amateur youtubers? Much better off watching the Hoonigan stuff on youtube, way cooler, better production values and real.

Like watching Fractured Flickers!
Australian131 August 2022
My eyes get sore with the constant scene changes, I don't get a chance to focus on anything! Jumps around too quick!

As for some of the mechanical talk, come on! Do these guys really know anything about engines?

Measuring a crankshaft, she says "It's 165 grams out!" What? Which part? How do you weigh one part of a crankshaft by measuring it with a caliper? Then runs some sanding strip on the journal!

Checks gunk attached to sump plug, obviously a magnet at the end nd states "The bearings have been damaged" or something like that... The bearing shells on a crank's big end or under the main caps is not ferrous, so will not cling to magnet for a start.

A whole of jargon is not right. Yeah maybe someone who deals with food mixer or hair curler might be fooled, but... I can't see a season 2 happening!

Over scripted and vague.
klipdrift-032015 September 2022
Watched one episode, kids who you don't really see doing anything meaningful to the cars they're working on. Pretty vague mechanical explanations. Over scripted racing scenes (couldn't be bothered finishing the episode to watch some stunt thing) Unless I'm pretty desperate to watch something it'll be my one and only episode. You'd be better of watching other motor shows with a bit more depth. Now I have to keep writing stuff until I get to 600 characters. Nice weather we've been having lately. My tomatoes have been cracking this year but my peppers not so much they're getting eaten by something not sure what.

Beautiful people want to be!!
tony-7663926 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Interesting show.... I guess... the car stuff is a bit mah. The producer is well... having a ball trying to contrive all this non existent tension. The camera angles are to say the least average. Trying to pretend a car is making record lap times when it's going at 50k Max speed. Its a joke. But the cast gets me. The girls are all stunning and it's expected that they are stunt drivers with there perfect quaff and well made complection. And the other girl is a mechanic. Looks like no mechanic I know. Not even the female ones. Bit the car speak is also mostly nonsense, talking about 50 year old technology in a modern power plant. Give me a break!

Awful, just awful
feardavid19 October 2022
Some context on how bad this show is, i have never posted on IMDB but went through the trouble to create an account specifically to express my dissatisfaction for this show. I am a massive gear head and will typically watch anything car related. Now some actual show details, the entire show is PAINFULLY scripted but acts as though it is not. The "races" are all staged and shot so poorly its like watching fast and furious satire. The "plots" each show setting up the race are quite literally cringe worthy. Avoid this show at all costs.... Netflix has plenty of shows for gear heads that are BANGERS. But this is not it.

Not for real gearheads that have actually worked on cars and engines
adrienp-0473830 June 2023
Wayyy too scripted to the point of not making sense most of the time. If you want to see REAL cars drag racing and many of them driven by women, wacth some NHRA drag racing. This is how these people make their money. And if you're impressed by female drivers, watch for Brittany Force (quickest drag racer alive) over 335 miles per hr in less than 4 seconds OR if you like the cars to look more like street cars and have doors that open and close, watch for Erica Enders who has won the NHRA Pro Stock world championship 5 times. Even motorcycle fans can have their female fix. Watch for Karen Stoffer, Angelle Sampey and Angie Smith. THis is their real lives, no scripts, no BS, just real cars and real racing.

I notice they never show the reaction time off the drag race tree which is where a lot of races are won and lost.

Scripted Technical Errorrs
davewhincup24 June 2023
Has all the makings of a good show but seems way to Forced with Hannah. There are Glaring technical inaccuracies like Rioll Cages stopping body roll- no they help with body twist and flex Not roll. Also in the Porsche episode goes on to explain how the car is Mid Engined - no the Porsche's are rear engined not Mid. Hopefully for Season 2 they will take a bit more care especially on safety items which are lack luster at best - too much time making the girls look nice for the camera and unlikely they do any actual engine work. It would be nice to see then wrenching more and also have more technical less theatrics please.
