Playful if pompous homage to Painleve
lchadbou-326-2659210 July 2018
What Ruiz and the other commentators have to say about the footage we see from the work of a French scientific filmmaker who specialized in fisy isn,t especially interesting, and is actually rather pretentious, but it can be accepted with the kind of humor that Robert Altman showed toward a similar philosophizing character in Brewster McCloud.Ruiz has added music and narration to some of the original Painleve material, which is fine, and mixed it with some of his own fish footage, which is also OK,but it is not fine to crop the aspect ratio so that some of Painleve is distorted into widescreen.
