An interesting little travelogue that promotes tourism in Indian country.
"The Indian-detour" is an unusual travelogue. Instead of the typical film of the day, the Santa Fe railroad and Harvey Company are promoting a three-day trip through American Indian territory--a way for the average American to see the natives of the New Mexico area between Taos and Albuquerque. Some of this trip is by rail and some is by bus. Unfortunately, some of the clips are less than accurate (with natives in Plains Indian costumes)! But I assume the point was to excite prospective travelers and they probably EXPECTED to see natives in such headdresses. You also see some ancient ruins--long deserted. And, you see clips of folks enjoying the resorts created for these travelers--filled with painters, natives, the open prairie and the like. An interesting silent film with LOTS of nostalgia and stereotypes. Worth seeing--especially for historical purposes.
