- TriviaOn the exterior shot of the building Roberto da Costa is being held by the Friends of Humanity, there is a missing person poster on a pole. The person on the poster is Marrow, a member of the X-Men in the comics in the late '90s / early '00s.
- GoofsThe reflection in Cyclops' glasses of the picture of the original Xmen line up is the wrong way round (it is not mirrored, as it should be).
- Crazy creditsThe opening sequence adds Morph and Bishop to the roster. In addition, Jean Grey and Storm sport their new hairstyles. The final scene has Thunderbird/Warpath and Gargoyle replaced with Emma Frost and Lady Deathstrike on the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants roster.

Not Bad. Promising Start.
I have a lot of the comics from this era, had all the toys, was obsessed with the tv show when I was a kid, etc. Looking back at the series there was a lot of cringe stuff, so I'm forgiving a lot of cringe stuff here as being an attribute of the all-ages comic book genre. Point being, I appreciate the nostalgia, but I don't look at entertainment the same way I did when I was 10.
The story picks up pretty much exactly where the last one left off, and they're introducing a new character, so it's all remaining in line with the original in that regard. The seasons were always several mini-plots made up of a few episodes each and featuring a mutant of the week, and this appears to following the same formula, which imho is a good thing. They found some creative combinations and uses for mutant powers, which let's be real, is what most of wanted.
If you can re-watch and enjoy the original and can look past some of the more eye-roll-inducing "modern audience" updates, then you will probably enjoy X-Men '97. This was mostly just an expository/re-establishing episode, but they hit a lot of the right notes and didn't butcher the characters... now let's see them do that for 9 more episodes.
